A 35-year-old man was arrested after allegedly breaking into his neighbor’s house in Barangay Bagbag, Novaliches, Quezon City, where more than P19,000 worth of belongings were reported stolen.

According to a report by James Agustin on GMA News’ Unang Balita, the incident happened at around 3 a.m. on Tuesday. CCTV footage showed a masked man climbing to the second floor of the house while the residents were asleep.

The man appeared to be looking around the area and at one point glanced toward the CCTV camera. The recording later stopped after he allegedly cut the camera’s connection.

Police said the homeowner discovered the incident at around 10 a.m. after waking up and noticing that the gate was open. The victim then checked the house and found several items missing.

Among the stolen belongings were the household’s CCTV set and pairs of shoes, including a pair belonging to the victim’s sister. Authorities placed the total value of the missing items at more than P19,000.

A follow-up operation later led police to the 35-year-old suspect. Although his face had been covered in the footage, investigators said the victim was still able to recognize him.

According to authorities, the suspect was the victim’s neighbor. The tattoos visible on both of his hands reportedly helped confirm his identity.

“Yung suspect natin ay kapitbahay mismo ng biktima,” a police officer said in the Unang Balita report.

The officer explained that the victim recognized the man because of the tattoos on his hands despite the face covering seen in the footage.

The suspect reportedly admitted to taking the items. When asked why he committed the crime, he said, “Para lang po may pambili na po ng gatas ng anak ko.”

He also claimed that he brought the stolen belongings to his friends. According to the report, the items could no longer be recovered because they had supposedly already been sold for P150.

The man later apologized to the victim and promised that he would not do it again.

“Sana mapatawad po nila ako. Hindi na mauulit yun,” he said.

Police records cited in the report also showed that the suspect had previously been jailed in connection with theft, illegal drùgs, and illegal possession of firearms.

Following his latest arrest, authorities said he was facing another complaint for theft.

In another report, A school in Barangay Sauyo, Quezon City was robbed of more than P313,000 worth of equipment and cash after two men allegedly entered the compound past midnight on Saturday. According to James Agustin’s report on GMA’s Unang Balita on August 26, CCTV footage showed one man climbing over a railing inside the school. He was later seen inside the administrative office, where he appeared to search through the area. His alleged accomplice was also captured by a security camera.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead outside a school in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal, on Thursday afternoon, triggering a police manhunt and leaving his family grieving. According to a report by GMA News' "Unang Balita," the victim was shot in the head at around 4 p.m. The gunman reportedly escaped immediately after the attack.

Recently, a mother and her 13-year-old son were injured after they were allegedly attacked with a bolo while sleeping inside their home in Barangay Paril, Cebu City. According to a report on GMA's Unang Balita, the incident happened after the 22-year-old suspect reportedly caused trouble during a dance in the barangay.
