The issue surfaced after the LTO identified Ramsay as the registered owner of a Porsche 918 Spyder that was reportedly found with an allegedly fake plate number.
According to an earlier GMA News report, a businessman was driving the supercar when it was flagged. The LTO's initial findings also indicated that the vehicle had reportedly been sold to the businessman, but its registration had not yet been transferred to the buyer's name.
Because of this, Ramsay remained listed as the registered owner in the agency's records.
The LTO has asked the actor and the businessman to explain their sides as part of the investigation. Their driver's licenses were also placed under a 90-day preventive suspension while the probe is ongoing.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao said Ramsay would need to show whether the vehicle had already been sold or had only been lent to the person who was driving it. Lacanilao is currently listed by the LTO as the agency's Assistant Secretary.
The agency said the actor is among those required to appear before the LTO on August 24 to provide an explanation and supporting documents regarding the vehicle.
For his part, Derek said he had not yet received the show-cause order at the time he issued his statement. Still, he made it clear that he was prepared to cooperate.
"I will cooperate and appear when requested," he said.
The actor also apologized to the LTO over the situation and stressed that the use of fake license plates should not be tolerated.
"Driving with fake plates is wrong and should not be tolerated," Derek said.
