Dr. Aaron Pabalan, Jr., a veterinarian, described the condition Latlat was in when rescuers arrived.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged attack remain under investigation. A resident in the area said the person who allegedly struck Latlat may have been afraid that the dog would bite.

Leah Montano claimed that the dog had been roaming the area without an owner and had previously been involved in biting incidents.

“Ang asong iyan, walang may nag-aalaga sa kaniya. Pagala-gala lang siya, marami na siyang nakagat,” Montano said.

Barangay officials are now helping locate the individual who allegedly hurt the dog. They also appealed to residents to avoid using violence when dealing with stray animals.

“Sana naman, huwag kayong manghampas ng aso. Baka may makapagsabi sa inyo o may makuhanan ng picture,” Barangay Tangub kagawad Luz Atienza said.

Meanwhile, a separate animal-related incident was reported in Barangay Ermita, Dumangas, Iloilo, where two dogs were found dead. Barangay officials suspect that the animals may have been poisoned.
