Three of the four teenage boys who went missing after entering a river in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan during heavy rain have been found dead, while one remains missing.

According to a report on GMA Network's Unang Balita on Friday, August 14, the bodies of 13-year-olds Ronjean Justine Alceso and Raizen Karl Delos Reyes were found in Marilao, Bulacan.

Their bodies were reportedly spotted floating in the river by fishermen. Gaya-Gaya Barangay Captain Ryan Santos said the area where the two were found was around 15 kilometers from where the group was last seen in San Jose del Monte.

Their respective families later identified them. Ronjean was from Barangay Gaya-Gaya in San Jose del Monte, while Raizen was from Bagong Silang, Caloocan. Both were 13 years old.

Jean Alceso, the mother of one of the victims, said she did not know that her son and his companions were planning to go to the river.

The grieving mother shared that their family had just returned from a vacation in Tacloban when her son was invited out by a classmate.

She also admitted that she initially struggled to accept that the body found was her child because she was still hoping he had survived.

“Hindi ko pa siya kine-claim na akin. Ayoko pa eh. Kasi nagho-hope pa ako na naligtas pa siya,” she said in the Unang Balita report.

She also questioned why the teenagers were apparently not warned when the water level began to rise.

“Wala nagsabi na tumaas ang lebel ng tubig, na wala man lang nagsaway,” she said.

Santos, however, explained that barangay watchmen had already been going around the area and monitoring the situation. He noted that the river stretches for around two to three kilometers, making it difficult to watch every part of it at all times.

Before the two teenagers were recovered in Marilao, 17-year-old John Norbert Nipay had already been found on Wednesday afternoon in a shallow portion of the river in Barangay Parada, Sta. Maria.

His family identified him through a black bracelet with a cross and a Bible verse. Authorities said he had been swept away after entering the Cabungan River on Monday amid a strong current.

With three of the four teenagers already found, authorities are continuing their search for Mark Ivan Herona.

The local government of San Jose del Monte also extended its condolences and assistance to the affected families. Officials reminded the public not to swim in rivers or the sea when weather conditions are poor.
