Lola Susana soon realized that the item returned to her was not her original jewelry.
“Lain ang ginbalik,” she said in the report, indicating that a different ring had been given back to her.
The senior citizen tried to follow the man after discovering what had happened. However, he managed to leave the area aboard his motorcycle.
Investigators from the Leganes Municipal Police Station reviewed the available CCTV footage. The motorcycle's license plate was visible in the recording, allowing authorities to establish the suspect's identity quickly.
Police later located the man at his residence in Santa Barbara, Iloilo. The report said he worked as a scrap gold buyer.
During the investigation, the suspect admitted his involvement in the incident. He also returned Lola Susana's original gold ring, which was valued at around P13,000.
The recovered jewelry was then placed in the custody of the Leganes police. It was shown in the Saksi report following the suspect's identification.
However, the case took another turn when the senior citizen decided not to pursue a formal complaint against the man. No further reason for her decision was stated in the report.
