The victim, according to the suspect, waited for him on his way home after their drinking session.
Allegedly, the victim threatened to kill him.
The arrested suspect is now detained in the Custodial Facility of the Valenzuela Police.
In the Philippines, the penalty for attempted murder is usually imprisonment, which ranges from 6 years and 1 day to 12 years.
Under the Revised Penal Code, if a person commits an act that would constitute murder but does not result in death (for example, the victim survives), it may be classified as attempted murder if there is clear intent to kill and qualifying circumstances like treachery, cruelty, or premeditation.
The penalty for attempted murder is one degree lower than that of murder, which is reclusion temporal (12 to 20 years), so attempted murder generally gets 6 to 12 years of imprisonment, depending on the court’s ruling and the circumstances involved.
