Liza Soberano is hoping her journey from Philippine show business to Hollywood will encourage more Filipinos to dream bigger and take chances on their ambitions.

The actress recently reflected on the decision to leave her successful career in the Philippines and pursue opportunities in the United States. Her move, which came in 2022, meant stepping away from a familiar environment at a time when she was already one of the country’s biggest stars.
Soberano now sees her upcoming role in DreamWorks Animation’s “Forgotten Island” as a meaningful result of that decision. She stars in the animated film alongside Grammy-winning artist H.E.R.
In an interview featured in Karen Davila’s latest vlog, Soberano explained that being cast in the project made her feel that her decision to take an uncertain path had been worthwhile.

"I definitely feel that when I got that call, and they were like, you're casted in this movie, because I thought this would be the perfect chance to kind of kind of show Filipinos that it's worth it to invest in your dreams. And for me, I knew the risk that I was taking at the time, but for me, you to have to weigh the pros and the cons of everything you do and for me, I value learning and growing as a human being and as a professional. And so that's kind of what I wanted to prove, I guess, to the Filipino people," Soberano said.
For the actress, the experience has also shaped the way she views ambition and the willingness to pursue goals despite uncertainty.
She said she has come to appreciate what she described as a strong “dreamer mentality” in American culture, particularly the way people openly share their aspirations and receive encouragement from others.
"One thing that I learned about being in America is, and that I really appreciate about American culture, is there's this strong, like, dreamer mentality. I feel like, in America. No limits. And, like, when people talk about their dreams and they share it with other people, other people encourage them to go after it. No matter how absurd it sounds," she said.
Soberano also contrasted that experience with what she has observed in the Philippines, where she believes some people may hesitate to pursue their ambitions because of a lack of self-belief.
"Here in the Philippines, I feel like when people have dreams, sometimes they're held back. ... and I was trying to decipher, what is that? Like, why is it that we don't have a lot of self belief? I want to encourage people to to keep dreaming big, because even if it doesn't seem like it's possible."
Her comments reflect how her own career shift has influenced the message she wants to share with fellow Filipinos: that uncertainty does not necessarily have to prevent someone from pursuing a long-term dream.
After establishing herself as one of the most prominent stars in local entertainment, Soberano chose to venture into an unfamiliar market in 2022. Her Hollywood pursuit has since become an important part of her professional journey, with “Forgotten Island” marking another major opportunity along the way.
