The affected area encompassed a diverse range of businesses, including a junk shop, a warehouse, and a “lechon” (roasted pig) store, as well as numerous homes.
This mix of residential and commercial properties contributed to the complexity of the firefighting efforts.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the fire was initially declared at first alarm at approximately 6:25 a.m., escalating to second alarm by 6:53 a.m.
The severity of the blaze prompted a coordinated response, with firefighters from neighboring cities, including Manila and Makati, joining the efforts to contain the flames.
Firefighting teams faced significant challenges in controlling the rapidly spreading fire.
By 12:08 p.m., they had managed to bring the fire under control in the lechon shop and warehouse.
However, efforts to extinguish the blaze at the adjacent junk shop continued for a longer period, due to the nature of the materials present in such establishments.
This incident underscores the ever-present danger of fires in densely populated urban areas, and the speed in which they can spread.
The bravery of the firefighters was also highlighted, due to the amount of injuries they sustained while responding to the incident.
