Actor-host Rayver Cruz looked back on a memorable rejection he experienced in his late teens, sharing how his overly nice approach while courting someone may have played a role in the outcome.

The 37-year-old The Clash host shared the story when he appeared as a resource person alongside Madam Chariz Solomon and Vice Chair Buboy Villar on Your Honor. During the conversation, Rayver looked back on a time when he was around 19 and was trying to pursue a girl he liked.

“Mga late teens, late teenager, like parang mga 19. Noong time na 'yun, okay naman kasi may gusto ako ligawan, tapos tina-try ko pormahan. Tapos alam ko naman may patutunguhan, kaso masyadong super, super, super nice guy 'yung atake ko, e. Siguro to the point na hindi na naman 'yung magwo-work for her.”

Madam Cha then suggested that Rayver may have come across as “parang boring” to the girl he was courting.

“Yes, thank you for the word, thank you. E, 'yun din 'yung na-feel ko. Hindi ko naman siya masisi, 'di ba? So, siguro may iba rin siyang nagustuhan. Pero ang okay lang naman doon sa taong 'yun, sinabi naman niya na wala nang pupuntahan.”

Chariz later asked whether the person who caught the girl's attention had a “bad boy” image.

“Tapos, 'yung katapat mo ba parang bad boy?”

Rayver agreed and proceeded to share the advice he received from his older brother after admitting that the rejection had hurt him.

As the eldest among their siblings, Rayver said he turned to Omar and opened up about what happened. His brother responded with advice that Rayver clearly remembered.

“Okay lang 'yan. At least alam mo na. Kaya next time, dapat maginoo, pero medyo bastos.”

Despite the experience, Rayver has since found himself in a happy relationship. He is currently dating Asia's Limitless Star Julie Anne San Jose, with the couple publicly confirming their relationship during Julieverse concert in November 2022.

During his appearance on Your Honor, Rayver also talked about the personality trait he considers an advantage when pursuing someone. According to him, his naturally cheerful disposition helps make his company enjoyable.

“Hindi ko masasabi na komedyante ako in terms na parang kagaya n'yo, pagka may sinabi kayo, natatawa na talaga ako.”

“Siguro advantage lang na jolly person ako, 'yung vibe ko, kasi mag-e-enjoy ka rin naman kapag kasama mo ako.”

The All-Out Sundays mainstay further explained that he tries to leave his worries behind whenever he goes out of the house.

“Pagka lumabas na kasi ako ng house, masayahing tao na ako, so lahat ng problema at lungkot, naiiwan lang doon sa bahay.”

Rayver's candid recollection showed a different side of his experiences with romance, from learning about rejection at a young age to recognizing the qualities he brings into relationships today.
