The veteran actor and his wife, Charlene Gonzales, were present at the musical’s opening night at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City on Friday, September 18, showing their support for Atasha as she took on the titular role.

During an interview with ABS-CBN showbiz reporter MJ Felipe, Aga and Charlene were asked about the comments directed at their daughter and her participation in the highly anticipated musical.

Charlene shared that she had personally witnessed the amount of preparation Atasha put into the production, including the effort and passion she devoted to the project.

“Nakita ko kasi lahat ng hardwork na pinagdaanan niya, preparation for the show, the love and passion that she put into this project and the family that they created. It just warms my heart,” Charlene said.

Aga, meanwhile, addressed the people who had criticized Atasha before she even officially took the stage as Annie Batungbakal.

He recalled advising his daughter not to dwell on the negative comments and instead concentrate on the work ahead.

"Well, I'm being honest, sa mga tumira sa kaniya noong una talaga, sabi ko, 'Wag mo na lang pansinin. 'Di ba? Gano'n talaga eh. Malaking show ang gagawin mo, and just work,'" he said.

Aga also had a direct message for those who had criticized his daughter, emphasizing that Atasha was simply trying to work and pursue an opportunity in show business.

"At sa inyo namang mga nanira sa kaniya, galing sa isang ama po, eh, nagtatrabaho lang ho 'yong bata, 'di ba, wala namang pinagyayabang, gusto lang maghanapbuhay, gustong gumawa ng show, hayan, panoorin n'yo po."

Atasha had received criticism after her casting for the musical was announced, with some social media users questioning whether she was suited for the role and arguing that other performers deserved the opportunity. She was also criticized by some who described her as a “nepo baby” because of her famous parents.

Despite the earlier backlash, Atasha went ahead with the production and took the stage during its opening night. Reports said she and the cast received a standing ovation, while Atasha became emotional after the performance.

Her parents’ support came as the young actress began a new chapter in theater, with Aga making it clear that his focus was on his daughter continuing to work rather than dwelling on the criticism.
