A devastating fire in Marikina City has claimed the lives of a father and his two children.

The incident occurred on Thursday, as a blaze engulfed their residence.

The father tragically lost his life while attempting to rescue his children from the burning structure.

According to reports from Bernadette Reyes on GMA News 24 Oras, the fire, which broke out in Barangay Concepcion Uno, consumed eight homes.

The Bureau of Fire Protection - National Capital Region (BFP-NCR) confirmed that the fire was declared at 8:11 A.M., reaching only the first alarm, and was extinguished by 9:44 A.M.

Family members of the victims recounted that the father had re-entered their burning home to retrieve his two children.

Despite his efforts, they were unable to escape the flames.

“May sinaing daw doon sa kapatid kong lalaki, nagluluto [nang magkasunog] binalikan niya yung anak niyang dalawa sa taas. Hindi na nakababa. Yung dalawang apo ko tapos tatay noon, tumalon sa kabilang bubong,” stated Rowena Carillo.

Neighbors reported hearing the victims' cries for help, but were unable to render assistance due to the intensity of the fire.

“Nakita ko nagliliyab na 'yung kapitbahay. Akala ko may nagluluto, grabe naman lakas ng kalan. Ginawa ko ginising ko na yung mga anak ko. Hindi ko alam yung pinanggalingan. Basta nakita ko na lang umaapoy na,” said Edmundo Torres, one of the residents who lost their home in the fire.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage.

In light of this incident, the BFP is urging the public to exercise extreme caution, particularly during the current hot weather conditions.

“Sa ngayon po na mataaspo ang ating heat index pinapa-alalahanan po natin ang ating mga kababayan na magdoble ingat. Kasi mainit po talagaang angating mga saksakan, lalo n amga electric fan, kapag hindi po natin ginagamit siguraduhin pong nakabunot at ang mga ilaw siguraduhing nakaswitch off,” advised Senior Fire Officer 3 Melan Balbuena of BFP Marikina.

The tragedy serve as a stark reminder of the ever-present danger of fires, and the importance of fire safety awareness.

The BFP continues to emphasize the need for vigilance, and the importance of having working smoke detectors within homes.
