A few hours later, the customer who identified himself called again and said that his uncle had died and that his body could not be released from the hospital in San Carlos City because of unpaid hospital bills.
According to Alvior, he gave the man P23,700 to pay the hospital bill and sent his companion there to collect the body.
However, when their staff arrived at the hospital to collect the body, it turned out that there was no record of the name mentioned by the scammer.
“Para kaming na-hypnotize, sir. Hindi na namin nakuhanan ng identity, pati ‘yung hospital bills hindi na namin natanong,” Alvior admitted.
Due to the incident, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) reminded business owners to thoroughly verify those they transact with before giving money.
