Barbie Forteza and Mika Salamanca expressed their solidarity with Filipinos affected by flooding as heavy rains continued to disrupt communities across the country.

The two actresses, who are part of the cast of Saving Cherry, shared their thoughts on the situation during a report by Aubrey Carampel on 24 Oras on Wednesday, September 2. While they continued with their professional commitments amid the weather disturbances, both stars acknowledged the struggles being faced by many Filipinos.

For Barbie, one way she hoped to help was through their movie. She said she wished Saving Cherry could provide audiences with even a short break from the difficulties surrounding them.

"I am sure na kahit sa dalawang oras na pelikula namin kahit papaano, sana mapasaya namin kayo. Makalimot kayo sa realidad at sa totoong nangyayari sa ating bansa at mag-enjoy kayo," she said.

The Kapuso Primetime Princess also shared that she could relate to Filipinos who continue working despite difficult circumstances. Barbie noted that she had also been continuing her own professional responsibilities despite the flooding.

"Kahit bumabaha, nagte-taping ako [ng] Honor Thy Mother. Nagpo-promote ako ng Saving Cherry. Tuloy ang buhay," she said.

However, Barbie also raised concerns about the country's system and emphasized that solutions to recurring problems ultimately come from those in positions of authority.

"'Yung solusyon naman nanggagaling 'yan sa pinaka-mataas e. Hangga't ganito ang sistema natin, walang magbabago," she added.

Mika shared a similar sentiment, saying that Filipinos should be able to see the results of the taxes they pay, particularly when it comes to roads and disaster preparedness.

"Sa sobrang laki ng buwis na binabayaran natin, dapat nakikita natin 'yun sa daanan natin. Dapat nakikita natin 'yun sa tuwing may sakuna," the actress said.

The former Pinoy Big Brother housemate further argued that resilience should not be the only expectation placed on Filipinos whenever disasters strike. For her, stronger infrastructure and better systems should also be part of the solution.

"Dapat pati 'yung kalsada natin matatag. Hindi 'yung mga Pilipino 'yung matatag," Mika explained.

Their statements come as flooding and heavy rains continue to affect various communities, putting renewed attention on disaster preparedness, infrastructure, and the systems meant to protect Filipinos.

She also shared that Sharon now lets her call her “mama” and has shown warmth and care toward everyone on the set.
