Bariou shared the government agency’s findings in an Instagram post, saying the investigation did not establish sufficient factual basis for the accusations against his property.
According to the findings he posted, Maison Bukana had no reclamation and did not encroach beyond its property boundaries. Bariou highlighted the results after previously speaking publicly about what he described as corruption and other issues in Siargao.
“The accusation travelled fast. The truth took months,” he wrote.

Bariou said the allegations against his resort surfaced only weeks after he spoke out about what he described as corruption, political intimidation, and harassment in Siargao. He claimed that the accusations were subsequently amplified before the investigation had established the facts.
“Within weeks, serious accusations appeared against my resort and were amplified nationally before the investigation had established the facts. Political figures publicly pushed Maison Bukana’s supposed environmental violations at the level of the DENR Secretary,” he said.
The businessman also alleged that external pressure may have been placed on the DENR to investigate other properties associated with him and his family. He said he received what he described as a “source information” making the allegation and that he was working to verify it through official documents.
Bariou further characterized the situation as a possible politically motivated smear campaign, while stressing that he was using his own case because it was supported by documentation.
“Taken together, I believe this bears the characteristics of a politically motivated smear campaign. I am using my own case because it is documented. The principle is bigger than just a resort’s reputation: government power, environmental enforcement, and media scrutiny must be applied fairly and accountably to everyone,” he asserted.
Following the findings, Bariou called on media outlets that previously reported on the allegations to issue public apologies and publish the official DENR-PRA results.
“A free press is essential to democracy. A responsible press is essential to public trust. Those who hold others accountable must also be willing to correct themselves. If an accusation deserves a headline, the truth deserves one too,” he said.
He ended his statement with a brief appeal:
“Let the evidence speak.”
Friends and supporters responded in the comments, congratulating Bariou and expressing support after the release of the findings concerning his resort.
