AC Bonifacio opened up about her childhood, family setup, and the sacrifices she made while pursuing a career in the Philippine entertainment industry at a young age.

During an interview with Benedict Cua on Potluck Saturdays, AC addressed the idea of growing up in a “broken family.” Despite not having both of her parents together, she emphasized that she never viewed herself as someone who was broken because of her family situation.

“I come from a broken family but I never felt broken,” she remarked.

AC explained that she was aware of the common perception that children who grow up without both parents may experience trauma or feel incomplete. However, she said this was not how she personally experienced her childhood.

“There's a concept kasi na if you don't have both of your parents, oh you're broken or you're gonna be some sort of trauma or something like that, but I've never felt broken,” she added.

The singer and performer also talked about her younger brother, who currently lives in Canada. Much of their family is based there, making his decision to stay in the country especially meaningful to AC.

“I have one little brother na nasa Canada. He's staying in Canada because he wanted to live the life I didn't get to live. So parang we are balancing each other,” she stated.

AC then reflected on the parts of childhood she missed while building her career in the Philippines. She said that one of the biggest things she missed was spending time with her family, particularly because her mother’s side of the family is in Canada.

“Obviously like family time. My whole family is there [in Canada]. My mom's whole side is there, watching my brother grow up, friend's time and of course school. But I mean, I can catch up with all that now,” she said.

Entering show business at a young age also exposed AC to public scrutiny. However, she revealed that her mother played an important role in protecting her from the harsher aspects of being in the spotlight.

“When I was young my mom shielded me very well from anything bad, so I think the worst I probably went through is just like the bashing, the hating,” she stated.

AC recalled that the criticism was not limited to her alone, as attacks were also directed toward her family and mother. She said her mother helped keep much of the negativity away from her so she would not have to carry the emotional burden alone.

“And there was so many attacks to me, my family, my mom. It was just so nice that she blocked it all out for me without me having to get so lonely or depressed or any of that. And I just got through it,” she added.

Looking back, AC said that everything she experienced eventually shaped how she views her present life. Rather than dwelling on the difficulties and sacrifices, she now sees them as experiences that helped her become more appreciative.

“That's why I am so grateful for the life that I went through. When you go through that, nothing will ever be hard na,” she remarked.

Her reflections offer a different perspective on growing up in a nontraditional family, while also highlighting the personal sacrifices behind her early career and the role her mother played in helping her navigate life in the public eye.

AC Bonifacio is a Canadian-Filipino dancer, singer, and actress who first rose to fame after winning the reality dance competition Dance Kids in 2016 as part of the duo Lucky Aces. She has since established herself as a prominent performer on Philippine television, appearing in series like High Street and placing as a finalist on Your Face Sounds Familiar.

In another report, Sassa Gurl issued an apology after facing backlash over a remark she made about AC Bonifacio during the media conference for “Saving Cherry.” The content creator acknowledged that her joke crossed a line and took responsibility for making AC feel uncomfortable. AC, who defended her home network during the event, later accepted the apology by sharing Sassa’s statement on social media.

Meanwhile, AC Bonifacio addressed allegations that she received special treatment to attend a BTS pop-up event in the Philippines. The actress and dancer explained that she was present because she had been hired to work at the event, rather than gaining entry through personal connections. She also responded to online comments about BTS members J-Hope and Jungkook following her on TikTok.
