OPM singer Jireh Lim has expressed his thoughts on the recent killing of a motorcycle taxi rider, saying the tragic incident highlights the need for stronger criminal penalties and stricter law enforcement in the country.

The case involved a solo parent rider who was allegedly stabbed multiple times by his passenger during a ride on July 14. CCTV footage showed the victim seated on his motorcycle when the suspect suddenly attacked him from behind. Despite his injuries, the rider tried to flee and return to his motorcycle while the suspect continued threatening him.
Witnesses immediately rushed to help the victim and brought him to a hospital for emergency treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Lim took to Facebook to share his reaction after seeing reports that the suspect had already been arrested. In his post, the singer suggested that the country's justice system should impose tougher consequences to discourage criminals from repeating their offenses.

“What if mas mabigat ang parusa at mas mahigpit ang implementation ng batas? Halimbawa, 10x na mas mataas ang pyansa at mas mahahabang sentensya para sa mga sa mabigat o magaang na krimen.”
He continued by explaining why he believes harsher penalties could make potential offenders think more carefully before committing crimes.
“Baka hindi lang dalawang beses mag-isip ang gagawa ng krimen—baka sampu o dalawampung beses pa.”
Lim later expanded on his opinion through a longer Facebook post, where he stressed that repeated violations of the law may indicate that current punishments are not serving as effective deterrents.
“Ito mismo ang gusto kong ipunto.”
“Kapag paulit-ulit ang paglabag sa batas, ibig sabihin may kulang sa deterrence. Kung hindi natatakot ang isang tao na gawin ulit ang krimen, baka hindi sapat ang consequences.”
“Hindi ko sinasabing ito lang ang solusyon.”
“Pero sa opinyon ko, mas mabigat na parusa at mas mahigpit na implementation ng batas ang kailangan. Kung 1–2 years lang ang parusa sa ganitong krimen, bakit hindi gawing 10–15 years? Kung ₱100k–₱200k lang ang bail, bakit hindi gawing ₱5M–₱10M kung papayagan ng batas?”
“Sa opinyon ko, mas mabigat na parusa, mas mahigpit na implementation ng batas, at mas tiyak na accountability ang ilan sa pinakamabisang paraan para mabawasan ang krimen.”
“Pag-isipan nating mabuti.”

According to authorities, the suspect allegedly targeted another victim and attempted to commit robbery in Malabon only hours after the fatal stabbing. He has since been arrested and is facing charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, as well as robbery and h0micide.
