Miss Earth Philippines 2025 Joy Barcoma made her stance clear on dating an 18-year-old after being asked about the controversial topic during Wednesday's episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.

The discussion came as the issue continues to generate conversations online, prompting host Boy Abunda to ask Joy and her Unang Hirit co-host Baus Rufo how they would respond if an 18-year-old pursued them romantically.

Giving a playful answer first, Joy said:

"Gagawing iskolar hahaha."

She then shifted to a more serious explanation, saying she believes someone at that age is still in the early stages of maturity and should prioritize decisions that will benefit their future.

"Ako po, Tito, pagsasabihan, kasi yung mga gano’ng edad po kasi, entering maturity pa lang sila. If you have already developed your frontal lobe, parang it’s up to you to inform this kid, this 18-year old na dapat yung mga desisyon na ginagawa nila is something that will actually benefit them in the future."

Joy emphasized that while experiences can become valuable lessons, she personally would not pursue a relationship with someone who is only 18 years old.

"If learning curve sa kaniya ‘to, learning experience ‘to, so be it. But as for me, hindi ako papatol sa 18-years old. More so because I know that relationships take a lot of maturity, take a lot of understanding, take a lot of experiences."

Baus shared a similar opinion, saying he would also advise an 18-year-old against pursuing him.

"Ako pagsasabihan ko na wag, masyadong bata, at two, di mo ‘ko afford kasi magastos ako."

Joy's latest remarks came just days after she drew attention on X with a post referencing actress Kakai Bautista. At the time, Joy said she would now feel offended if people compared her to Kakai following the actress' defense of courtside reporter Apple David, whose relationship with 18-year-old basketball player Chad Gammad became a widely discussed topic online.

The relationship between Apple and Chad has remained one of the most talked-about celebrity issues on social media, with differing opinions emerging over their age gap. Amid the debate, Joy reiterated that her personal view is rooted in maturity and long-term growth rather than age alone.

In another report, Joy Barcoma said she would now take offense if anyone compared her to Kakai Bautista. Her remark came after Kakai publicly defended Apple David amid the backlash surrounding the latter's relationship with 18-year-old Chad Gammad. Kakai maintained that the issue was a personal matter and challenged critics to file a complaint if they believed any law had been violated. Apple David has continued to face online controversy since opening up about her relationship with Chad Gammad.

Meanwhile, Kakai Bautista addressed the criticism she received online after defending Apple David's relationship with Chad Gammad. The actress denied accusations that she was acting as an "enabler" and pointed out that no formal complaint had been filed against the couple. She said she would only criticize Apple David if the authorities decided to pursue a legal case. Kakai's remarks generated mixed reactions from netizens, with some agreeing with her position while others argued that legality and morality should not be treated as the same issue.
