Mikael Daez candidly admitted that becoming a first-time father has been both rewarding and challenging, saying he and wife Megan Young continue to learn as they raise their son, Leon.

Speaking with Bianca Gonzalez on the Paano Ba 'To? podcast, the actor said one of the most important lessons he has embraced is accepting that he does not have all the answers when it comes to parenting.
"I don't know everything and I don't know a lot. And I accept that. And I think that mindset has been so important and has been so beneficial for me and Megan."
Daez explained that growing up in a large Filipino family exposed him to countless parenting opinions, making it difficult at times to separate his own beliefs from traditions passed down through generations.

"I come from such a huge family. Nine siblings and my cousins. I have like 50 cousins on one side, 30 cousins on the other side. So the way you raise a child – the societal pressure of how you raise a child – is very strong. Especially here in the Philippines because we're such a familial country, familial people."
Because of that environment, he said he has learned to pause and reflect before making parenting decisions, asking himself whether those choices genuinely align with what he and Megan want for their son.
"The pressures are so strong that sometimes you really need to be able to take a step back and say, 'Wait, do I really want to do this? Do I really want to raise my son the way Lola says, the way Mama says, the way my friend says?'"
Instead of simply following advice from relatives or friends, Daez said he and Megan make it a point to discuss important decisions together before choosing what they believe is best for Leon.
"So being able to just take a step back, breathe, talk to my wife, and just discuss how we want to raise Leon, I think, is so important. Because it's so easy to get caught up in the way of 'Let's do this kasi ito 'yung ginagawa sa atin ni Lola, ni Lolo.'"
The actor also shared that he often becomes the calmer presence whenever Megan, whom he affectionately calls "Bonez," feels overwhelmed by outside expectations.
"So I think I'm the rock in the relationship when it comes to taking a step back. I tell Bonez: 'Bonez, 'wag kang ma-pressure. Let's take a step back and think about it.' So just having that awareness and being flexible. We don't know everything. We don't have all the right answers. Neither do the people around us. We take life step by step and try to figure it out."
Beyond handling outside opinions, Daez revealed that balancing parenthood with work, marriage, and personal well-being has become the couple's biggest challenge.
"Definitely, balance. I guess I would say work-life balance, because Megan and I, since we do things together so often, we're trying to figure out what the best balance is between putting your energy and attention towards work and just other things outside of Leon."
He acknowledged that while it is natural to devote everything to a child, parents also need to nurture their relationship, careers, and individual growth.
"Because it's so easy to just pour everything into Leon. You know, let go and not give energy to everything else. But that's important. It's really important to keep balance in your life. You still have to work, of course, for just practical financial reasons. You still have to take care of yourself as a person, as an individual. We still have to take care of ourselves as a couple."
Daez admitted that striking that balance remains a work in progress and believes the journey of parenthood is something that can only truly be learned through experience.
"It's so easy to fall into the pit of saying 110% of energy and attention goes to Leon and nothing else. So that's definitely something that Megan and I, and I guess I myself, I would like to improve on. It comes with giving Leon too much and realizing that, oh my God, I gave too much. I need to be able to attend to the other things in my life, to Megan and my family and work as well."
