Anne Curtis backs Sen. Risa Hontiveros' 'Sandy's Act' for further awareness

Anne Curtis, an actress and TV host, gave her full support to Senator Risa Hontiveros for filing Sandy’s Act or Senate Bill 2971, which aims to improve awareness and response to fatal jellyfish stings in the Philippines.

On Instagram, Anne reposted the senator's video and emphasized the urgent need for more research on the country's venomous jellyfish species and the appropriate antivenom needed for treatment upon contact.

"There needs to be more research and awareness on what kind of venomous/deadly jellyfish we have in Philippine waters, and what kind of anti-venom we would need for the specific species," Anne wrote on her page.

The Kapamilya actress, who has personally experienced a jellyfish sting back then, even recounted how painful it was despite only coming into contact with the tentacles of one.

"As someone who went through excruciating pain by a mere brush of the end of three tentacles, I can tell you it's no joke. To see and hear little lives lost to FATAL jellyfish stings is DEVASTATING," she added on Instagram.

Anne also directly commented on Sen. Risa’s post, reiterating the importance of researching to determine the exact species of deadly jellyfish that are present in Philippine waters as well.

"I am for this! More research should be done as well so there is awareness as to what kind of deadly species of jellyfish we now have in Philippine waters. Then the proper anti-venom could be administered and be available in areas where these fatal jellyfish stings have been recurring," she said in the comments.

Senate Bill 2971, also known as Sandy's Act, was named after Sandy Garovillas, a young victim of a fatal jellyfish sting. If passed, the law would mandate research, education, and preventive measures to address the growing concern over deadly jellyfish stings in the country as well.
