Days ago, Filipino television host Gretchen Ho expressed her disappointment over Jo Koy’s performance and his explanation for his ”unfunny” jokes at the Golden Globes 2024. According to Gretchen, hosts are always responsible for their scripts and that Jo Koy wasted a huge opportunity.

“Hosts are always, always responsible for their scripts. Whether it’s your own or not, at the end of the day, it’s your face and career on the line. This was such a huge stage, and a wasted opportunity,” Gretchen tweeted.

On Twitter, television host Kiko Rustia criticized Gretchen for describing Jo Koy’s Golden Globes hosting as a wasted opportunity. He also criticized Gretchen for disabling comments in her original tweet.

“Rising to the challenge, win or fail, is never a wasted opportunity.
“@Jokoy may have blundered, but the fact remains: he took on that role and got up that stage when others couldnt and wouldnt.
“That said, disabling comments is a wasted opportunity to learn from one's blunder,” Kiko said.

Gretchen then defended her original statement, saying that it was used as a clickbait headline. She also clarified that the “wasted opportunity” she tweeted about was more about Jo Koy blaming his comedy writers and less about his overall performance.

“I meant a different thing about the “wasted opportunity” comment, and my mistake was not explaining it well, and it was used as a clickbait headline.

“It was really about how he threw his writers under the bus. He himself said in an interview, that this was a ‘rookie move’ on his part.
“I also found some of the jokes off — like the Barbie one. In an influential stage such as hollywood where they’re trying to disentangle stereotypes, it was contrary what they were trying to do.
“Am I not allowed to have my opinion as a viewer? Also, I already got a lot of flak for posting this sir, what else do you want?” Gretchen responded.

Kiko then agreed with Gretchen that she is allowed to air her opinion as a viewer but that she should also be open to netizens reacting to her post. He also clarified that his response was not based on clickbait headlines but on her actual tweet.

“We are all allowed our opinions, but we should also be open to other people's reaction and opinions about it.

“I didnt base my opinion off a 'clickbait headline'.. your tweet appeared on my feed for some reason, read through, and gave my opinion too. No offense meant Ma'am,” Kiko explained.

Gretchen then replied that she has been open about netizens’ reactions to her viral tweet.

“I’ve been open naman. I’ve been having conversations and reading replies,” she said.

However, Kiko pointed out that she should not have disabled the comments section of her original post. Gretchen then agreed with that observation from Kiko.

“And thats great, though disabling the comments might not be the best for the rest....but thats just me.
“Maybe a follow up tweet would have cleared matters agad... thats what I do when I realize I made a mistake, blunder, or a lapse in judgement. But again, thats just me,” Kiko responded.
Gretchen replied: “Agreed and noted, thanks.”

Pokwang, pinakita ang conversation kay Jo Koy matapos ang Golden Globes fiasco

Gretchen Ho is a television host and former volleyball player in the Philippines. She played volleyball for the Ateneo Lady Eagles from 2008 to 2013. Her popularity rose when she became a co-host on Umagang Kay Ganda, TV Patrol, and The Score.

In one of her previous Instagram posts, Gretchen shared a photo where all members of her family, except for her late father, were seen celebrating the birthday of the TV host’s eldest brother. In her caption, Gretchen noted that it was the first birthday celebration that her father was not in attendance. She is of the opinion, however, that her family has grown stronger ever since her Dad passed away. The TV host also remarked that her eldest brother is not the “Padre de Pamilya,” then jokingly signed it with “your mortal enemy.”

Gretchen also jokingly shared on social media that she used to spend many of her college breaks at the chapel. She then said that she goes there and sits “on the far end of the pew,” not only to pray but also to sleep. The TV presenter also said that no one else knows that she’s sleeping there. Gretchen then surmised that perhaps God would not mind if she sleeps there as she would always ask permission if she could rest at the chapel.
