Jelai Andres opened up about one of the most personal chapters of her life as she revealed that she has finally forgiven both her ex-husband, Jon Gutierrez, and herself after years of emotional healing.

During her guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Monday, July 20, host Boy Abunda asked Jelai whether she had truly reached the point of forgiveness following the end of her marriage.

Boy asked, "Napatawad mo na ba si Jon, ngayon, as we talk, at napatawad mo na rin ba ang iyong sarili?"

Jelai answered honestly, admitting that while she had previously believed she had already forgiven Jon, she eventually realized that true forgiveness had not yet happened.

"Yes, Tito Boy... Sinasabi ko dati, Tito Boy, may mga interview dati na napatawad ko na, hindi pala."

She went on to explain that her healing journey only became complete after she learned to forgive herself. According to Jelai, she turned to faith, attended Christian and Catholic seminars, and reflected deeply on everything she had gone through.

"So kailangan, patawarin ko 'yung sarili ko. Nag-repent ako, Tito Boy. Nag-attend ako ng mga seminar na pang-Christians and Catholics, pang kay Lord na."

Jelai shared that those spiritual experiences became a turning point in her life, allowing her to seek forgiveness not only from God but also for the way she had treated herself during that painful period.

"Doon ko ni-repent na, 'Patawarin mo ako, Lord, kasi ginanto ko 'yung sarili ko.'"

She said she eventually realized that genuine forgiveness had finally taken place because the anger and emotional pain she once carried had completely disappeared.

"Doon ko po naramdaman na nakapagpatawad ako kasi hindi na ako galit, Tito Boy. Nawala na lang siya bigla. Nawala na 'yung galit, 'yung pain."

Looking back on the end of her marriage, Jelai said she has fully accepted what happened and now believes that their separation ultimately turned out for the better.

"Tanggap ko na, na-accept ko na na, 'Ah, ito 'yung nangyari. Okay lang. Buti na lang, naghiwalay kami.'"

Jelai's candid reflections offered a glimpse into the emotional and spiritual journey she underwent after her marriage ended, emphasizing that forgiveness began not only with letting go of resentment toward another person but also with extending compassion to herself.
