A day after former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest, comedienne and singer Gladys Guevarra took to Instagram to share her admiration for him, recalling a personal encounter that left a lasting impression.

In her post, Guevarra expressed respect for differing political views but emphasized how she personally saw Duterte as a father figure rather than a politician. She described the moment she met and hugged him, saying, “Hindi presidente o politiko ang naramdaman ko nung makamayan at mayakap ko sya, kundi isang ama, o tatay na gusto lamang eh protektahan ka sa anumang pwedeng panganib.” She also revealed that she has never registered to vote, making it clear that her sentiments were based on personal experience rather than political allegiance.
Acknowledging the heated debates surrounding Duterte’s arrest, Guevarra urged people to respect each other’s opinions and avoid unnecessary conflicts. She encouraged unity, writing, “Wala ng unfriend-an, wag tayo ang mag-away away. Ang gulo na eh! Kahit para sa bayan nalang natin.” She also called for prayers for healing within the government and for those affected by the ongoing political turmoil.

The reading of the Miranda rights is a standard procedure for persons being arrested to ensure that the latter fully understands their rights upon their arrest. It can be recalled that the International Police (InterPol) has confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court against the former president.
An earlier video showing former President Rodrigo Duterte’s longtime partner, Honeylet Avanceña, seemingly trying to prevent the former leader from being taken into custody has gone viral. The video, which was posted on the social media page of their daughter, Veronica or Kitty Duterte and shared by ABS-CBN news on its own page, has since then gone viral. The said video also captured snippets of conversations between Avanceña and the former leader.
