Jhong Hilario instantly made rounds on social media because of his speech during the Guild of Educators, Mentors and Students (GEMS) Gabi Ng Parangal on March 21.

KAMI learned that the veteran celebrity won as the Best Male Performance In A Supporting Role for “Ang Probinsyano” during the aforementioned occasion.

In his acceptance speech, Jhong expressed his gratitude to the award-giving body for recognizing his acting skills in the long-running drama series.

He also mentioned the veteran actor Eddie Garcia as his inspiration especially when it comes to giving adlibs and throwing dialogues for antagonists.

“Hindi lang po ito appreciation para sa amin. Ito rin po ay paraan para mabuksan ang mga pinto para magkaroon ulit kami ng trabaho. Kaya maraming salamat po…” he quipped.

“Napaka-swerte ko na kasabay kong tumanggap ng award ang isang napakagaling, batikang direktor at artista, Mr. Eddie Garcia,” he added.

Amid his serious message, Jhong was able to insert some statements that broke the ice during the much-awaited Awards Night.

He mentioned the rival program of his noontime show, “It’s Showtime” and he recited a short poem regarding the latest recognition given to him.

“Yung pagiging host naman sa TV, accidentally lang naman yun dahil hurado lang naman ako. Hindi ko alam na mamahalain ako ng tao. Buti na lang nakatanggap ako nito, ‘Eat Bulaga’ pala ang nanalo,” the actor funnily said.

“Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa GEMS dahil binigyan ako ng award. Mga pinaghirapan ko sa ‘Ang Probinsyano,’ sila ang nagbigay sa akin ng reward. Kaya okay lang na hindi ko mapatay si Cardo, meron naman ako nito,” he concluded.
