Opening up about her formative years, the multi-awarded actress shared heartwarming insights into growing up under the care of her mom whom Julia said is hearing and speech impaired.

She also revealed that her father, whom she personally met when she was already 21 years old, is also hearing and speech impaired.

“Si papa ay German tapos si mama ko naman Filipina. Pero pareho ang doon sa family kasi namin na ano pareho silang deaf and mute. Yes deaf and mute po sila. Okay. So 'yun 'yung unique sa family ano naming,” Julia revealed.

The actress then went on to share her experiences with her mom. “Ang memories ko kay mama po kasi lumaki ako kasama naman si mama. Um lahat po ng pupuntahan namin parang 'yung movie na CODA, lahat po ie-explain ko kay mama,”

The movie mentioned by Julia, “CODA,” is short for Child of Deaf Adults, which is a story of the only hearing member of a deaf family.

“So kung napapansin niyo po ayan nagsasalita ako laging may kamay kasi nga parang nasanay ako na kapag nagsasalita ako explain ko kay mama ko sa bahay para at least habang nag-uusap po tayo naiintindihan niya na. So lahat ng pupuntahan ng mama ko ako 'yung assistant niya. So sa jeep kung saan kami pupunta, Ako 'yung magsasabi, ako 'yung kakausap sa doctor, ako 'yung kakausap sa lahat. Tapos 'yun po 'yun po 'yung kinalakihan ko kay mama ko,” the actress said.

She then went on to narrate about her experience with her father who was also speech and hearing impaired.

“Kay papa ko naman po recently ko lang kasi nakilala si papa. 21 years old lang po ako. So iba rin 'yung naging rapport namin ni papa kasi 'yung sign language po na alam ko sa mama ko which is 'yung um, universal po kumbaga parang English sa atin. Si papa naman iba naman 'yung sign language. So nung nag-meet po kami akala ko automatic dahil pareho silang deaf and mute sign language na same hindi pa rin po pala. Hindi pala universal 'yun? Opo. Iba pa po. Pero buti na lang po si papa naman marunong ng universal. So kahit papaano mahirap lang nakakapag-usap naman kahit konti,” Julia said.
