Dealing with hormonal imbalances while in the public eye is an everyday challenge, and Shaira Diaz is speaking up to spread awareness and empathy for women navigating similar health conditions.

During a candid discussion on Unang Hirit, the host and actress opened up about her long-standing battle with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Shaira shared that her condition began at a young age.

"Na-diagnose ako ng PCOS parang ano pa lang ako noon, 18 years old. May PCOS na ako. And then ako, ano ako eh, laki ako... tataba ako tas papayat, tataba, papayat. Pero lately kasi siguro dahil 31 na rin ako, medyo tumatanda na rin tayo, so parang hirap na talaga akong mag-lose ng weight," Shaira shared.

Shaira explained that casual photos she shared on Facebook wearing everyday clothes at home without makeup often attracted unsolicited criticism about her body, some hurling very hurtful comments.

"Mahilig kasi akong mag-post sa Facebook eh, tapos kung ano yung mga nino-post ko doon, mga naka-simpleng pambahay lang ako, walang ayos... Tapos may mga nagco-comment na, 'Grabe, nag-asawa lang ganto na, tumaba, baboy'... Yung iba naman parang nanganak na daw ako ng lima, sampu," she shared.

She urged netizens to be mindful before jumping to conclusions or judging someone's appearance online.

"Para lang mas maintindihan nila ako and kahit papano yung mga taong nagco-comment ng gaun eh bumwelo-bwelo, pumreno-preno naman... Sa case ko, meron akong pinagdadaanan na health issue din kaya ganito ako. Kahit gusto kong magpapayat at tina-try ko naman."

Despite the initial hurt, Shaira expressed gratitude after receiving an outpouring of love and encouragement.

"Nagulat ako kasi hindi lang ako nag-iisa pala dito. Ang daming meron ding... na-diagnose sila ng PCOS... Nakakatuwa kasi chini-cheer up nila ako, in-empower nila ako na wag kong pansinin... Pinapalakas nila yung loob ko," she added.
