“Pag tumakbo si Leni,” Ely replied to the question. Though he did not mention any family name, many believed he meant VP Leni Robredo.

When Leni did announce her presidential bid on October 7, fans and followers stormed the musican’s social media accounts and asked that he keep his promise.

In an interview, Ely said he meant it as a “half serious joke.”

The former frontman for the Eraserheads also said that some people just made it into a “big deal.”

He also denied that his reply was a political post.

“That answer was far from a political post. I do respect and admire Leni. If I were to vote, she's my top candidate right now. That tweet was a half serious joke maybe, but people made it into a big deal,” Eli further said.

In the case of Raimund Marasigan, one of the band’s original members and its drummer, he said that Ely’s tweet must be read deeper than just taken literally.

Marasigan added, though, that if there’s really a reunion, he is ready to rehearse with his former bandmates.

The answer of Ely last month on the question of whether there is still a chance for an Eraserheads reunion earned mixed reactions from many netizens. On the morning of September 27, the singer-composer held a Q&A for his followers on his Twitter account. One of his fans asked if there would ever be a chance for Eraserheads band members to reunite. Ely answered if Leni would run, though it wasn’t clear if he meant it or was an offhand and non-serious about the band reuniting if VP Leni would run for public office in next year’s election.

The post of the former bassist of Eraserheads, Buddy Zabala, also re-ignited talks of the band’s reunion after posting support for VP Leni in his social media account. Last month, during a Q&A session on his Twitter account, the band’s former frontman, Ely Buendia, said the band would reunite “if Leni runs,” which many believed he meant Leni Robredo. In a later tweet, though, Ely said his political opinion is his own and does not reflect that of his former bandmates at Eraserheads. Recently, fans stormed Ely’s social media account with messages asking him to fulfill his promise after VP Leni confirmed she is running for president in next year’s elections.
