2 Pinoy tourists killed after bus crashes on way to Oktoberfest in Germany

Two Filipino tourists died after the bus carrying them and other Filipino travelers crashed in Germany while on its way to Munich for Oktoberfest.

According to a report on GMA's State of the Nation Address or SONA, the tourist bus was traveling from Milan, Italy, when the accident happened.

More than 30 people were reportedly on board, while 22 passengers were injured.

Authorities later identified one of the fatalities as a 27-year-old Filipina who was living in Italy. The other victim was a 58-year-old Filipino man who was traveling with his wife.

His wife was among those injured in the incident.

A GMA News report said 19 injured passengers remained in hospitals as of September 28. Philippine officials have also been coordinating with hospitals and the families of those affected.

The bus was carrying a group of Filipinos from Milan to Munich, where they were reportedly planning to attend Oktoberfest.

The Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt earlier said the group consisted of around 33 Filipinos.

The accident happened on the A96 highway near Buchloe in Bavaria on September 27.

Initial reports said the bus went off the road before overturning. No other vehicle was reportedly involved in the incident.

German police later confirmed the identity of the 27-year-old Filipina who died in the crash.

Authorities also said passengers who were initially classified as seriously injured were later reported to be out of danger.

Other victims received treatment from emergency responders following the accident.

Officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration were also expected to assist the affected Filipinos, according to the SONA report.

Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the Philippine government would help with the repatriation of the remains of the two Filipinos who died.

The agency would also continue helping those who were still undergoing medical treatment.

Cacdac added that assistance would be provided to survivors who needed temporary accommodation until they could return to Milan.

Meanwhile, German authorities are still investigating what caused the bus to leave the highway.

Reports said investigators were conducting an analysis of the crash to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The two Italian drivers of the bus were also reportedly being investigated for possible negligent hόmicide. Both drivers were said to have escaped serious injuries.

The German Embassy also expressed its condolences to the families of the Filipinos who died in the accident.

In another report, a four-year-old girl died after she was hit and run over by an SUV in Barangay Bambang, Pasig. Based on the report, a man and a woman were crossing the road when the young girl, who was following behind them, suddenly ran toward the middle of the street. The child was then struck and run over by an SUV.

According to a report by GMA Regional TV featured on Unang Balita, the couple was walking along the side of the road in the early morning when the SUV suddenly approached from behind. CCTV footage captured the moment the vehicle struck the couple before leaving the area.
