Manny Pacquiao reacts to Kenneth Egano’s death; pays for boxer’s medical bills

Former senator and retired boxer Manny Pacquiao has reacted to the news that 22-year-old Filipino boxer Kenneth Egano has died. Egano, who died in the hospital after falling into a coma, collapsed in the ring before it was announced that he won his eight-round match with boxer Jason Facularin.

The boxing match on May 6 at the Imus Sports Gymnasium in Imus, Cavite was part of the Blow by Blow boxing event promoted by Pacquiao, Boxing Scene reported.

The Philippine Star also reported that after hearing about the tragic news, Pacquiao expressed his heartbreak over the tragedy. He also emphasized the dangers of the sport of boxing and how boxers should be respected for putting their lives on the line for the sport.

“There is nothing more precious than human life.

“Boxing is truly a dangerous sport and the boxers deserve nothing but respect as they put their lives on the line. Other sports you play, but you don’t play boxing,” Pacquiao said.

In a report by Rappler, Pacquiao promised to shoulder Facularin’s medical bills, as he was sent to a hospital in Cavite after collapsing.

Manny Pacquiao is an eight-division world boxing champion, considered one of the greatest boxers in history. He is married to Jinkee Pacquiao, whom he called his best friend. Jinkee and the boxing legend have five children – Emmanuel Jr. (Jimuel), Michael Stephen, Mary Divine Grace (Princess), Queen Elizabeth (Queenie), and Israel.

In other boxing news, Manny Pacquiao got defeated in a civil lawsuit filed in the US by Paradigm Sports Management. The retired boxer was ordered by the jury to pay a total of $5.1 million — around ₱282 million — to Paradigm. A civil lawsuit was filed by Paradigm against Manny for allegedly breaching their contract. Manny was accused of concealing his preexisting agreement with Paradigm while negotiating with another promotional company — TGP Promotions.

Earlier, Pacquiao defeated DK Yoo of South Korea in their exhibition boxing match on December 11. The eight-division world champion got a unanimous decision victory after six two-minute rounds. Pacquiao stepped up the gas in the second half of the fight when he was able to knock down the Korean three times. He had no issues connecting with his punches despite being shorter and lighter than his Korean opponent.
