A man described as a barker died after allegedly shooting at police officers who responded to a gun-grabbing incident involving a security guard in Bacolod City.

According to the report on GMA’s Balitanghali, police said they returned fire after the man allegedly fired at them using the weapon he had taken from the guard. Authorities described their response as an act of self-defense.

The man was taken to a hospital but later died from his gunshot wounds.

The incident happened along Mansilingan-Murcia Road, where the man and the security guard were seen struggling by the roadside. The report described footage showing the confrontation, followed moments later by the sound of several gunshots.

Police said the man managed to take the guard’s firearm during the struggle. He allegedly fired at the guard afterward, but the guard was not hit.

GMA’s separate written report also said the guard was safe following the confrontation. It likewise reported that the barker died after allegedly resisting responding officers.

When police arrived, they reportedly asked the man to return the firearm. According to their account, he instead fired at the responding authorities.

The officers then returned fire, saying they were defending themselves. As the news report put it, “Gumanti ng putok ang mga pulis bilang self-defense umano.”

While the footage described in the segment showed the roadside struggle and captured gunshots, the account of the man firing at the guard and responding officers was attributed to authorities.

The report identified the man’s occupation as a barker but did not give his name. It also did not explain what happened before the struggle or why he allegedly took the guard’s weapon.

Meanwhile, a motorcycle shop owner in Davao City sustained a gunshot wound to the arm after attempting to fight back against an armed man who entered his establishment. According to a report on Unang Balita, the suspect was wearing a helmet when he went inside the motorcycle shop and pointed a gun. The owner tried to resist, but the armed man fired at him. The suspect fled when a commotion broke out, leaving the shop owner wounded.
