A 35-year-old father was found dead after he and his 7-year-old child were swept away by rushing water in a river in Botolan, Zambales.

According to a report by EJ Gomez on GMA News' Saksi, the father and child were on their way home aboard a cart being pulled by a carabao when the incident happened.

The Philippine Coast Guard said rushing water coming from the mountains suddenly reached the area and overturned the cart.

The father was later found dead. His 7-year-old child remained missing at the time of the report, and authorities continued efforts to locate the child.

The incident happened as parts of Zambales continued to experience problems linked to heavy rain, flooding, and lahar flow.

In nearby San Marcelino, Sta. Fe National High School was among the areas affected by lahar. The school grounds were covered in thick deposits, prompting the temporary suspension of face-to-face classes.

The local government said it was coordinating with the Department of Education to speed up the cleanup of the campus.

Residents in Barangay Sta. Fe have also been dealing with damaged access routes. A wooden bridge connecting the northern and southern parts of the barangay was damaged on August 10 because of the strong river current.

The damage reportedly isolated more than 1,000 families and made the delivery of assistance more difficult, especially during periods of continuous rain.

In another report, A school in Barangay Sauyo, Quezon City was robbed of more than P313,000 worth of equipment and cash after two men allegedly entered the compound past midnight on Saturday. According to James Agustin’s report on GMA’s Unang Balita on August 26, CCTV footage showed one man climbing over a railing inside the school. He was later seen inside the administrative office, where he appeared to search through the area. His alleged accomplice was also captured by a security camera.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead outside a school in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal, on Thursday afternoon, triggering a police manhunt and leaving his family grieving. According to a report by GMA News' "Unang Balita," the victim was shot in the head at around 4 p.m. The gunman reportedly escaped immediately after the attack.

Recently, a mother and her 13-year-old son were injured after they were allegedly attacked with a bolo while sleeping inside their home in Barangay Paril, Cebu City. According to a report on GMA's Unang Balita, the incident happened after the 22-year-old suspect reportedly caused trouble during a dance in the barangay.
