A dog in Bacolod City is recovering after returning home with a crossbow bolt embedded in its body, prompting concerns over possible animal cruelty in Barangay 8.

According to a report by Aileen Pedreso on GMA Regional TV Ratsada Balita, the dog came back to its owner, Cha-cha, in a weakened condition. The animal was reportedly limping, and its owner noticed that a bolt had become lodged in its body.
Cha-cha said she did not know where the projectile came from or exactly how the incident happened.
“Hindi ko alam kung saan galing. May nakapagsabi lang na may nakakabit na sa kaniya. Siyempre, naawa naman ako. Parang tao rin sila. Mabait naman siya,” ayon kay Cha-cha.

With the dog needing immediate assistance, neighbors helped Cha-cha remove the bolt from the animal’s body. The dog remains under recovery as it heals from the wound caused by the incident.
Cha-cha suspects that young people in their area could be responsible, although no perpetrator has been identified. She said the barangay also raised the possibility that youths may have been involved in what happened.
“Sabi ng barangay, posible na ganito nga. Sana hindi nila ginawa iyon sa aso,” saad niya.
Animal welfare groups have also expressed willingness to help determine who was responsible for the attack. Their assistance could help establish what happened and identify the person or people behind the animal’s injuries.
Animal welfare advocate Lowella Marie Sanicas also reminded the public that cruelty toward animals carries penalties under Philippine law.
“Under sa ating Republic Act 8485, bawal magsakit or mag-maltreat ng hayop, especially ang ating dogs and cats. Tayong mga tao, mas nakakaalam tayo compared sa hayop. Sana maging lesson ang nangyaring ito,” paalala niya.
The incident has renewed calls for responsible treatment of animals and for authorities and the community to help prevent similar cases of cruelty.
In a separate incident, Marlon Sabandal was shot dead while reportedly attempting to break up a street brawl in Barangay Buting, Pasig City, in the early hours of July 12. According to GMA News’ Unang Balita, several men were initially seen arguing by the roadside before the dispute turned physical. Barangay tanods patrolling the area on a tricycle reportedly noticed the commotion, crossed the street, and moved in to intervene.
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old motorcycle taxi rider was allegedly killed by his passenger after being stabbed with an ice pick in Caloocan early Tuesday morning. GMA News’ Balitanghali reported that the suspect allegedly took the victim’s motorcycle and fled after the attack. The rider had reportedly just dropped off the passenger in Kaunlar Village, Barangay 20, at around 1:30 a.m. Shortly afterward, the passenger allegedly attacked him, repeatedly stabbing him in the side with an ice pick.
