Rovelyn Baterbonia, the mother of late athlete Rene Baterbonia, issued a strong warning against individuals allegedly taking advantage of her son’s death, saying she is prepared to pursue legal action against those who may be exploiting the family’s situation.

Rene died on June 8 alongside his teammate Divine Adili following a drowning accident during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora. His death drew an outpouring of support from thousands of fans and well-wishers, many of whom extended financial assistance and donations to his grieving family.

Amid the support, however, questions and accusations surfaced regarding merchandise connected to Rene and donations being solicited in his name.

In a post shared on her official Facebook account, Rovelyn rejected accusations that the family was using her son’s death to make money. She explained that selling jerseys and other merchandise had already been part of their efforts to help with family expenses while Rene was still alive.

“Gusto ko lang po ipaalam sa lahat po ng nagsasabing pinagkakaperahan ko Ang anak ko Buhay pa po man Siya nagbebenta napo kami ng jersy at kabilinbilinan nya dati pa para may pandagdag sa gastosin ng aming pamillya,” she asserted.

Rovelyn also addressed individuals who may have received messages from people allegedly asking for financial assistance using Rene’s name. She said she was willing to investigate such transactions and take legal action if necessary.

“Dun nman sa mga taong mapagsamantala na pinadalan nyo Wala po akong alam dyan paki send nyo sa akin Ang mga transaction # at ipapa trace ko po kamag anak ko man o mga vlogger s na naghihingi sa inyo Ako po mismo Ang magsasampa ng reklamo pakiusap at pasuyo paki send sa akin Ang Convo ninyo,” she maintained.

The grieving mother emphasized that she remains thankful to those who have supported their family following Rene’s passing. Despite the assistance they have received, she made it clear that their primary concern remains obtaining justice for her son.

Rovelyn ended her message by expressing gratitude to those who continue to stand by the family while placing her trust in God amid their ongoing struggle.

Rene’s death continues to be a deeply painful chapter for his loved ones, while his mother’s latest statement highlights the family’s determination to protect his name and pursue justice.

In another report, Lance Carr spoke out against people who allegedly invoked Rene Baterbonia’s name to gain online attention and produce content. The actor raised concerns about the circulation of misinformation related to the late athlete’s case. Carr also recalled his personal connection with Baterbonia, whom he knew during their time at Ateneo de Davao University. He honored Rene’s basketball achievements and remembered the lasting influence he had on their community.

Meanwhile, Robin Padilla shared a News5 report announcing that the remains of student-athlete Rene Baterbonia had reached Talacogon, Agusan del Sur. The public viewing was set to start at 1 p.m. at the Talacogon Gym. In his message, Padilla remembered Baterbonia’s sacrifices and aspirations for his loved ones. The senator also discussed what he viewed as the harsh reality of the “Filipino dream” and how opportunities for achieving it are often centered in Metro Manila.
