Grade 8 transferee allegedly stabs 7 pupils on first day of classes in General Trias

A 16-year-old Grade 8 transferee allegedly injured seven Grade 5 pupils during a knife attack inside a private school in General Trias, Cavite on the opening day of classes.

Based on a report aired on GMA News' State of the Nation Address (SONA), the incident happened inside a Grade 5 classroom while several teachers were attending a meeting.

Police said the student entered the classroom carrying a kitchen knife that had reportedly been brought from home and concealed inside her bag.

"Sa pagkakausap ko doun sa suspect ay dala po niya yung parang kitchen knife mula sa bahay po nila," a police official said in the report.

All seven victims sustained knife wounds, mostly on their backs. Two of the pupils underwent surgery because of the severity of their injuries. Authorities later confirmed that the children are now in stable condition and continue to recover.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive behind the attack.

Police and local government officials said there is currently no indication that the incident was related to bullying or a conflict among students. They also noted that the suspect was a transferee and apparently did not personally know the victims.

"Wala po. Talagang at peace po yung situation nung morning na iyon," an official said regarding the atmosphere at the school before the incident.

Authorities also revealed that there were no CCTV cameras inside the classroom or school building that could help investigators reconstruct what happened.

The city government has shouldered the medical expenses of the injured pupils and is providing psychosocial support to the victims, witnesses, and the student involved.

According to local officials, the teenager has been brought to the National Center for Mental Health for further assessment.

"Ang recommendation ng aming social worker ay dalhin po yung bata sa National Center for Mental Health para ma-assess," a local official explained in the report.

Meanwhile, the school administration has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.

The city government, police, and the Department of Education regional office are conducting a joint investigation. Officials are also reviewing the school's security measures after questions were raised about how the knife was brought onto campus.

In other news, a tragic altercation in Bocaue resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman after she was reportedly attacked by her younger half-brother. Law enforcement officials indicated that the conflict was triggered by a disagreement regarding a request for fare money. The victim suffered several fatal injuries during the encounter and was pronounced dead prior to her arrival at the local hospital. Following the incident the 33-year-old suspect was taken into custody by police and is anticipated to be charged with murder.

Local police are currently conducting a deeper inquiry to determine the specific reasons behind this violent act.
