According to a report by GMA News, the pair was using the designated pedestrian crossing when the incident happened. CCTV footage of the accident later became an important part of the investigation conducted by local authorities.
Barangay officials said the driver was reportedly looking downward slightly while operating the cart. Because of this, he allegedly failed to notice the mother and child crossing the road.
The CCTV footage showed the cart continuing along its path before hitting the victims in the pedestrian lane. As a result, both sustained minor injuries and received immediate assistance after the incident.
