14-year-old PWD dies after alleged beating by six fellow minors in Parañaque

John Raven Tabinas, a 14-year-old person with disability (PWD), died after he was allegedly beaten by six fellow minors in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City.

The incident was reported in a news segment of GMA News' Unang Balita. According to police investigators, the victim had arranged to meet several minors to receive a pair of shorts that had supposedly been purchased for him.

Authorities said the encounter initially appeared normal. However, after the shorts were handed over, the teenager allegedly became the target of a violent attack.

Police said the assault happened while the victim was crossing a footbridge.

"Bale after nung naibigay na nila yung shorts, pag-akyat nung victim natin doon sa footbridge, doon na siya pinagsusuntok," a police officer said in the report.

Despite his injuries, the teenager reportedly managed to run to a nearby police station. Authorities said he was already vomiting blood when he sought help, prompting responders to rush him to the hospital for treatment.

According to the Parañaque City Police report, the victim suffered a severe traumatic brain injury as a result of the alleged beating. He later died from his injuries.

Following the incident, police launched a follow-up operation that led to the apprehension of the six minors allegedly involved in the attack.

"Nung nai-report sa atin, nag-conduct na tayo ng follow-up. Nakuha natin sila," a police officer stated.

Authorities also revealed that the victim was able to identify the alleged suspects through a video procedure while he was still confined in the hospital.

The victim's mother became emotional as she spoke about the loss of her son. She said she could not accept what happened to him.

"Masakit po sa akin yung ginawa nila. Walang kamalay-malay yung anak ko. Ginawa lang nilang pangsuntok, binugbog nila, walang kalaban-laban," she said.

The six minors were not able to give statements in the report. Authorities confirmed that they are currently under the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Police also said that a murder complaint has already been referred to the Parañaque City Prosecutor's Office.

As of writing, investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the alleged attack.
