He also attempted to force himself to vomit, but nothing happened.

"Tinry kong magsuka, wala din," he added.

He immediately woke his parents, who brought him to the emergency room. Doctors later confirmed that he had swallowed the missing wire.

He was then referred to an ear, nose, and throat specialist and was instructed not to eat prior to the scheduled procedure.

According to Dr. Gamaliel Urbi, president-elect of the International Association for Orthodontics, such incidents are extremely rare.

"I would say one-percent or maybe less than one-percent," he said.

He warned that longer wires pose a higher risk.

"If it's lengthy, about one inch or more, there is a good chance it might get dislodged," he explained.

On April 1, Vincent underwent a procedure to remove the wire.

"Nilagyan nila ako tubo sa bibig," he said.

Doctors eventually located the wire near the end of his tongue and safely removed it.

After the procedure, Vincent stayed overnight in the hospital and was prescribed medication. He later visited his dentist to have excess wires removed to prevent a similar incident.
