“Person Of Interest” sa pagpatay kay Mervin Guarte, tukoy na ng pulisya sa tulong ng CCTV footage

- The identity of the “Person Of Interest” in the killing of SEA Games gold medalist Mervin Guarte has been established by police authorities

- This was done with the help of a CCTV footage showing the POI entering the house where Guarte was sleeping

- Police authorities say the POI used to be the childhood friend of the victim

- They are now looking into personal grudge as the motive behind the killing

The identity of the “Person Of Interest” in the killing of Mervin Guarte, a SEA Games gold and silver medalist, has been established by police authorities.

This was made possible with the help of a CCTV footage showing the said POI entering the house where Guarte was sleeping, and leaving about two minutes after, around the time the gold medalist was stabbed.

It can be recalled that Guarte was sleeping in the living room of a barangay official, who is also his friend, when the stabbing incident occurred.

The gold medalist was still able to call for help and was brought to a nearby hospital, though later succumbed to his injuries.

According to police authorities, the POI used to be the childhood friend of the victim.

They are also looking into personal grudge as the possible motive behind the stabbing incident.

“Ang nakikita po namin baka may mata­gal nang kinikimkim na galit itong suspek. Siguro, tinimingan kaya nang makakita siya ng pagkakataon doon niya ginawa ‘yung krimen,” says Calapan City Police chief PLt.Col. Roden Fulache.

Another Pinoy athlete, EJ Obierna, recently took to Instagram and shared a tribute for Guarte, the athlete who was stabbed while sleeping at a friend's house. The Olympian posted a photo, when he was together with Mervin and other athletes. EJ was shocked when he heard the news of his "National Teammate Kuya Mervin." For EJ, his death was a tragedy, especially that he was only 33 years old.
