Alice Guo recently wrote to Senate President Chiz Escudero explaining her and her community’s current situation.

In her letter, Guo said she’s right now facing a huge challenge both as an elected official and a member of her community in Bamban.
“Mahal na Senate President Escudero. Magandang araw po sa inyo. Ako po ay sumusulat sa inyo bilang isang inihalal na opisyal ng bayan at bilang isang mamamayang humaharap sa matinding pagsubok. Labis ko pong pinahahalagahan ang pagkakataon na maipahayag ang aking damdamin at humingi ng inyong pang-unawa,” Mayor Guo wrote in her letter to the senate president.
She then praised the leadership of Sen. Chiz and expressed her faith in his fairness when it comes to questions about Bamban’s local chief executive.

“Una sa lahat, nais ko pong iparating ang aking taos-pusong paghanga sa inyong mahusay na liderato sa Senado. Ang inyong dedikasyon at integridad sa pagsulong ng rule of law ay tunay na kahanga-hanga at nagsisilbing inspirasyon sa amin,” she said.
“Napakalaki ng aking respeto sa inyong prinsipyo na ‘he who alleges must prove the same,’ lalo na sa usapin na ako daw ay isang Chinese, na nagsisiguro ng patas at makatarungang proseso,” Mayor Guo added.
The suspended local chief executive then apologized if her earlier statements created some misunderstanding.
“Sa kabila ng aking sitwasyon, nais ko pong humingi ng paumanhin kung nagkaroon ng hindi pagkakaunawaan kaugnay ng aking mga naging pahayag. Wala po akong intcnsyon na pagsabihan o diktahan ang Senado kung ano ang mga dapat bigyang prayoridad. Nauunawaan ko po na ang bawat mambabatas ay may sariling tungkulin at responsibilidad sa bayan. Ang aking layunin lamang po ay magbigay ng suhestiyon base sa mga problemang nararanasan ng aking mga kababayan sa Bamban,” she said.
The embattled mayor then asked for help from Sen. Chiz, not for her but for her community in Bamban, because at the moment, she’s unable to discharge her duties as mayor after being slapped with a suspension order.
“Ang aking pansamantalang suspensyon ay nagdudulot ng malaking hamon hindi lamang sa akin kundi pati na rip sa aming komunidad. Sa kasalukuyan, hindi ko po magampanan ang aking tungkulin at hindi ko matulungan ang aking mga kababayan. Dahil dito, humihiling po ako ng inyong tulong at pang-unawa. Umaasa po akong sa inyong pamumuno, hindi pababayaan ang aking mga kababayan na nangangailangan ng suporta ng pamahalaan,” the embattled local chief executive said.
She then asked to be given the chance to defend herself in the proper forum.
“Bilang isang tao na patuloy na humahanap ng hustisya, umaasa po akong mabibigyan ng pagkakataon na maipagtanggol ang aking sarili sa tamang forum. Batid ko pong bilang isang abogado, nauunawaan ninyo ang kahalagahan ng "presumption of innocence" at ang pangangailangang irespeto ang karapatan ng bawat indibidwal habang umuusad ang imbestigasyon,” she said.
“Sa aking karanasan, pagkatapos ng bawat pagdinig sa Senado, nagiging sentro ako ng negatibong posts sa social media, na para bang ako ay isa ng convicted criminal at hindi isang resource person sa tema ng mga pahayag at patudsada ng mga Senador na dumidinig ng issue ko at ng Pogo. Ako po ay tao rip na may damdamin at nasasaktan sa mga ganitong pangyayari. Pilipino po ako, may dangal at pagkatao,” Mayor Guo said.
It can be recalled that her citizenship came into question after she was unable to satisfy the curiosity of senators who wanted to know more about her.
Alice Leal Guo is the Mayor of the Municipality of Bamban, Tarlac. She won as mayor during the national elections in 2022. She became known nationwide after her name was dragged into the ongoing Senate investigations regarding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations or (POGO) and the alleged proliferation of illegal immigrants. Her name has been the subject of many online memes since then.
Earlier, Mayor Guo released an official statement following an order for her arrest by the senate. The suspended Bamban mayor cited "severe exhaustion" and "trauma" as the reasons why she has not attended the two senate hearings. She also addressed Senators Win Gatchalian and Risa Hontiveros in her statement, even asking if she was the country's biggest problem. She also assured the senator that she does not pose as a threat against him.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Bureau of Immigration has released a statement regarding suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo. The Bureau’s statement came about after reports surfaced about the embattled local chief executive going out of the country using her Chinese passport. It can be recalled that Mayor Guo came under intense scrutiny after a senate committee investigating the proliferation of POGO hubs presented evidence that put the identity of the local chief executive in question. She was subsequently slapped with a six-month preventive suspension without pay after the DILG filed a complaint against her for serious dishonesty, grave misconduct, and gross neglect of duty.
