Rep. Pulong Duterte, may matinding sagot kay Korina Sanchez sa komento nito sa Davao

Davao 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte has responded to broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas after she described parts of Davao as seemingly unchanged and “left behind” compared with other areas.

Korina Sanchez drew a response from Davao 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte after she commented on the development of Davao during the September 16 episode of her program on Bilyonaryo News Channel.

While discussing development spending in Mindanao with co-anchor Willard Cheng, Sanchez recalled her visit to Davao and said some areas appeared similar to what she remembered from her years as a reporter in the 1980s and 1990s.

“Pumunta nga ako ng Davao eh. Sabi ko, ‘Ito na ba yun? Bakit parang ano… ako lang po ito ah… parang sinauna pa rin.’ Kasi nagre-reporter na ako noong 80’s, 90’s doon.”

She added that progress was not visible in some areas, saying:

“Hindi mo makikita sa iba pang mga lugar ang progreso. Ganoon pa rin, napag-iwanan.”

Duterte responded in a Facebook post on September 21, arguing that progress should not be measured mainly through malls, high-rise buildings and other upscale establishments.

“Madam Korina Sanchez-Roxas, eto sa akin din lang opinyon to ha. Kung ang tingin mo sa progreso ay puro sosyalan, high-rise buildings, malls at party-party, dyan ka na lang sa sosyalan ninyo,” he replied.

He said Davao residents place greater importance on government services and basic needs.

“Dito sa Davao, ang pinag-uusapan namin ay kung gumagana ang gobyerno para sa ordinaryong tao—911, emergency response, peace and order, health services, disaster response, roads and basic public services.”

Duterte also rejected the idea that Davao needs to resemble Makati or BGC to be considered progressive.

“Hindi kailangang maging kopya ng Makati o BGC ang Davao para masabing umuunlad. At hindi rin nasusukat ang progreso ng isang lungsod sa dami ng Ayala o Megaworld projects.”

He then highlighted Davao City’s economy, citing a figure of P601.68 billion, before directly challenging Sanchez’s description of the city as “napag-iwanan.”

“NAPAG-IWANAN? Hangover ka pa ata sa last champagne party niyo ah. FYI lang madam, ang ekonomiya ng Davao City ang pinakamalaking ekonomiya sa Mindanao at Visayas at 601.68 billion pesos,” he remarked.

Duterte’s post ended with a personal jab directed at Sanchez’s husband, former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas.

“KUMUSTA NA BA IMUNG BANA? UNSA GANI IYANG NABUHAT? GA INUM BA GIHAPON SIYA SA PLATO? KALIMOT KO SA NGALAN SORRY MADAM,” he said.

As of the report, Sanchez and her camp had not issued a public response to Duterte’s remarks.

Korina Sanchez is a prominent Filipina broadcast journalist, television news anchor, and magazine show host widely recognized for her long-standing work with ABS-CBN, including anchoring TV Patrol and hosting Rated K. She continues her career in media as a news anchor and program host across various networks and digital platforms.

In another report, the Senate impeachment court overturned the earlier ruling that fixed the conviction threshold for Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial at 16 votes. The decision followed Senator Erwin Tulfo’s appeal of Presiding Officer Chiz Escudero’s July ruling, with the court voting 13-1 to adopt a formula based on senators who are legally and factually capable of participating in the proceedings. The revised interpretation excludes certain senators who are detained, suspended, medically incapacitated, beyond the Senate’s coercive processes.

Meanwhile, Korina Sanchez shared that her husband, former Senator Mar Roxas, is no longer interested in returning to electoral politics. According to Korina, Roxas has received offers but remains uninterested in pursuing another political position, although she said he continues to value public service if the right opportunity comes along. She also spoke about Roxas’ accomplishments during his years in government and his quieter life away from electoral politics.
