Michael V. explained why he now rarely makes parody songs despite the genre being one of his well-known trademarks in comedy.

During his guest appearance on the 1,000th episode of The KoolPals in July, the Kapuso comedian talked about the changes in making parody versions of popular songs.
According to Michael, creating parodies used to be much easier because record companies would sometimes approach them and allow them to spoof their songs.
“Dati walang problema,” he said.

“There was a time na ang lumalapit pa 'yung mga record companies na parang, 'Uy, i-spoof n'yo naman 'yung kanta namin, i-parody n'yo naman 'yung kanta namin.’”
He also recalled how parodies were previously made without the same licensing requirements being imposed today.
However, Michael said the process eventually changed as music companies became stricter about permissions.
“Pero ngayon, nagkaroon na ng ganun. Lumalapit na 'yung music companies sa inyo. 'Tapos, biglang naging mahigpit na kailangan kumuha na ng permit. 'Tapos, later on kailangan mo na magbayad.”
For the comedian, the additional requirements have affected his enthusiasm for making parody songs.
“So, parang dun na ako unti-unti nawawalan ng gana, kasi hindi mo na magawa 'yung gusto mo.”
Despite this, Michael continues to make parodies when the requirements are completed.
His latest example is “Eh Kulang,” a parody of NOBITA’s hit song “Ikaw Lang.” It was performed by his parody persona NoKITA and aired on Bubble Gang on September 20. GMA Entertainment identified Michael as the writer, performer, and director of the parody.
The song tackled everyday financial concerns, including expenses, salary, rising fuel prices, and debts. GMA News also reported that Michael personally wrote the lyrics for the parody.
Aside from explaining why parodies have become less frequent, Michael shared an interesting detail about the process behind them.
He revealed that his Bubble Gang co-star and associate producer Diego Llorico is the one who handles the permits whenever they create a parody.
“At ang nagaasikaso niyan si Diego,” Michael said.
He then jokingly imitated Diego while asking for permission to parody a song before adding, “Paano mo seseryosohin?”
Diego has been part of Bubble Gang since its early days and has worked with Michael V. for many years. In a recent interview, he also credited Michael for having a major influence on his comedy career.
