The longtime couple revisited their love story during an interview with content creator Meet Cutes With Johnny K in Salcedo, Makati. Their relationship began while they were both connected to the 2010 television series Mara Clara, where Jhong was working as an actor and Maia had a role behind the scenes.

"I'm an actor before and until now. She worked [on] one of the series, Mara Clara," Jhong shared.

The actor then recalled one seemingly ordinary moment that became memorable in hindsight.

"I borrowed her jacket, and the rest is history, as they say," he added.

What began on the set eventually developed into a relationship that has lasted for 15 years. Jhong and Maia have been together since 2011 and now share a daughter, Sarina, who was born in 2021.

During the interview, the couple also offered a glimpse into how they have maintained their relationship through the years. Rather than describing their partnership as completely conflict-free, they pointed to their disagreements as one of the things that keeps their relationship dynamic.

They said having “lots of fighting” makes their relationship “more exciting,” suggesting that disagreements have become part of their way of navigating life together.

Maia also shared what she appreciates most about Jhong, particularly the small gestures he makes even when they are apart.

"Maybe the small things that he does for us. Like, for example, he has to eat out with his co-workers or his friends, he always makes it a point to bring home something for me and Sarina, our daughter," Maia said.

He described her as "very responsible as a partner and as a mother."

The couple also revealed a major milestone they are anticipating as a family. Jhong shared that they are excited about their new house, which will be their first home together.

"For the new house. It's gonna be our first home. Our first house. So gonna be excited," Jhong shared.

Their story, which began with a television production and an unexpectedly borrowed jacket, has since grown into a family life with their daughter and a new home on the horizon.
