In an interview with Viu Philippines, the Kapuso actor revealed that he was already willing to join the project even before he knew its full concept. The mention of Nadine Lustre as his potential co-star was enough to make the offer particularly appealing.

“When it was offered to me kasi si Nadine [Lustre] agad 'yung binanggit sa akin nila ni Ms. Garlic and of course, the Viu team. I said yes, regardless na wala pa 'yung concept, actually,” he said.

Alden explained that he immediately saw the potential in working with Nadine, especially because of her connection to Siargao. He believed her familiarity with the island could contribute to a more authentic portrayal of the setting and its community.

“Sabi ko nga, ang perfect lang nung combination kasi si Nadine is taga-doon. And mas magiging maayos 'yung storytelling because we really have a local's perspective, and aside from that, kasama siya sa cast,” he added.

For Alden, Nadine’s involvement was not the only factor that made the project attractive. The opportunity to work in an island setting also presented a new experience in his career.

“I think doon pa lang sa aspect na 'yun, made me say yes already, and also, it's my first time working with Viu,” he explained.

The actor further emphasized that Love, Siargao stood out because it allowed him to take on something he had never done before. Beyond working with a new platform and co-star, he was also excited to film an entire project on an island and portray a character with a distinctly local identity.

“Ayun na e, it's really a matter of something that I have never done before. I have never shot a project on an island. Hindi pa ako nagkaroon ng role na island boy,” he continued.

Looking back at the reasons behind his decision, Alden made it clear that the combination of Nadine, Siargao, and the fresh experience made the project difficult to turn down.

“What's not to like about Love, Siargao? For me, nothing.”

Nadine Lustre (born Nadine Alexis Paguia Lustre on October 31, 1993) is an acclaimed Filipino actress, singer, and entrepreneur who first rose to stardom in hit romantic comedies before transitioning to critically acclaimed roles in films like Deleter and Uninvited. Beyond her multi-award-winning screen career and musical releases, she is known for her eco-conscious business ventures in Siargao, which she runs alongside her longtime partner, Filipino-French entrepreneur Christophe Bariou.

In another report, Alden Richards shared how his experience hosting “Rebuilding Broken Rooms” gave him a closer look at the challenges faced by students and teachers in public schools. After personally visiting several campuses, the actor said he was struck by the condition of makeshift classrooms and the number of students being accommodated in limited spaces. Alden questioned how some classrooms could hold as many as 145 students despite the recommended class size being significantly smaller. He also raised concerns about the government’s education budget while stressing the urgency of addressing the shortage of classrooms.

Meanwhile, Christophe Bariou opened up about a serious health battle that he had kept private for years. Nadine Lustre’s partner revealed that he had been diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma and was initially told that he might have only weeks left to live. A second medical opinion, however, gave him another opportunity to fight the disease, leading him to undergo chemotherapy and immunotherapy in France. Christophe said the treatment resulted in full remission after two months, while the experience profoundly changed his outlook on life, strengthened his sense of purpose, and inspired him to encourage others to live without regrets.
