Alden Richards admitted that leading the GMA Public Affairs documentary special Rebuilding Broken Rooms changed the way he sees the current state of education in the Philippines after personally witnessing the conditions faced by students and teachers in several public schools.

During Nelson Canlas' report on 24 Oras Weekend on Saturday, August 1, the Kapuso actor shared that the documentary opened his eyes to the everyday struggles experienced inside overcrowded and under-resourced classrooms. Alden said seeing the situation firsthand left him deeply concerned, especially after speaking with both students and educators during the visits.
"And I saw personally the conditions. Kapag tinatanong ko 'yung mga bata, bakit kapag tinatanong ko 'yung mga guro, normal 'to sa kanila? Makeshift classrooms, dikit-dikit sila, sobrang init," Alden narrated.
According to Alden, what troubled him most was how these difficult learning conditions have already become a normal part of daily life for many schools. He said it was hard to understand why such situations continue despite long-standing discussions about improving education.

The actor also raised concerns about the number of students being assigned to a single classroom. He noted that the recommended classroom ratio is far lower than what he encountered during the documentary.
"'Yung standard ratio ng 1 is to 35, meaning 1 classroom is to 35 students. Bakit mayroong mga classrooms na 1 is to 145? 1 is to 75? Bakit tayo umaabot sa ganon?" he said.
Alden added that the issue became even more difficult for him to comprehend after learning about the government's education funding for the year.
"To think this year, nag-allocate po ang government ng 1 trillion pesos for education last February."
The Kapuso star hopes that Rebuilding Broken Rooms will encourage more Filipinos to recognize the realities inside many public schools and inspire conversations about the importance of improving learning environments for students and teachers alike.
