Barbie Forteza is stepping into unfamiliar territory as she takes on what she considers the boldest and most mature role of her acting career in the upcoming comedy film Saving Cherry, which is scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on September 2.

During the film's media conference on August 3, Barbie introduced audiences to Cherry, a character she described as unlike anyone she has portrayed before. According to the Kapuso actress, the role challenged her to explore a side of herself that she had never fully expressed onscreen.

“She is the wildest woman I've ever portrayed to date. Siya 'yung wildest and most freeing, I think, for me. And lahat 'yun ipinagpapasalamat ko kay Direk Ivan. Not just 'yung role, pero 'yung freedom of approaching every scene.”

Barbie went on to praise director Ivan Andrew Payawal for trusting the cast's instincts throughout filming. She said the director welcomed their ideas and encouraged them to interpret every scene naturally.

Aside from marking a new milestone in her acting journey, Saving Cherry also serves as Barbie's return to Regal Entertainment following her lead role in Mano Po Legacy: The Family Fortune in 2022.

To prepare for Cherry, Barbie admitted she intentionally tapped into her own adventurous side. She said the experience surprised even her, adding that people should not always assume someone who appears kind has only one side to their personality.

“In-unleash ko lang 'yung wild side ko. Actually, ang saya kasi aminin naman natin, hindi naman lahat 'pag mabait, mabait, 'di ba? So, hindi ko rin akalain na may ganon din akong side. Wild pero may dahilan, may lalim, and most of all, I think, so far ito 'yung most mature role ko because we will tackle about marriage, e.”

She further revealed that Cherry is already married at the beginning of the story, allowing the film to tackle serious relationship issues despite its comedic tone.

“Ito 'yung role ko na kasal na ako agad-agad umpisa pa lang. Marami ho talagang pagdadaanan ang pelikula namin and we would all love for all of you to join us in this journey."

Joining Barbie in Saving Cherry are Khalil Ramos, Mika Salamanca, Mikee Quintos, AC Bonifacio, Joey Marquez, JC Alcantara, Kokoy De Santos, and several other cast members. The film is set to premiere in cinemas across the country on September 2.

Barbie is also set to appear in the highly anticipated series Honor Thy Mother alongside Sharon Cuneta and several other acclaimed actors.

Meanwhile, Barbie Forteza spoke highly of Sharon Cuneta, describing the veteran actress as one of her longtime idols. She praised Sharon's acting style, saying her scene delivery is layered, nuanced, and emotionally compelling. Barbie also recalled immediately feeling Sharon's warmth when they first met. Honor Thy Mother serves as a collaboration project between GMA, ABS-CBN, and Prime Video.
