Showbiz insider Ogie Diaz openly expressed his support for Senator Erwin Tulfo as a possible vice presidential candidate in the 2028 elections, even though the senator has previously said that he intends to remain in the Senate.

Diaz shared his preference during the latest episode of “Showbiz Updates” on Friday, August 14, while greeting Tulfo, who celebrated his 63rd birthday on August 10.
The veteran showbiz commentator made it clear that his support was not merely a casual birthday greeting. He said he was personally pushing for Tulfo to seek the vice presidency.
“Ang ating pagbati, mahal na mahal ko ‘yan, si Erwin Tulfo na birthday. Pinu-push kong tumakbong Vice President. Wa echos,” Ogie said.

Diaz then explained why he believes Tulfo could be a strong candidate, pointing to the senator’s long-standing reputation for helping people in need.
“Broadcaster pa lang ‘yan, nauubos na ang pera niyan sa katutulong. Ako mismo nakikita ko ‘yong mga tao, pumipila sa kaniya. Pati ‘yong mga production people na nangangailangan. Kailangan dumukot ni Erwin Tulfo.”
According to Diaz, his opinion is based partly on personal experience. He said he and Tulfo worked together for four years on a morning show, giving him an opportunity to observe the senator’s actions away from the political spotlight.
Diaz specifically highlighted Tulfo’s generosity, saying he had personally seen people seek his assistance, including production workers who were experiencing financial difficulties.
His remarks come as Tulfo and his brother, Senator Raffy Tulfo, have previously been linked to discussions surrounding the 2028 elections. Their names have appeared among the leading choices in presidential preference surveys, putting greater attention on their possible political plans.
Despite the speculation, however, Erwin Tulfo has previously stated that he and Raffy intend to remain in the Senate.
“Ang plano lang po namin [ni Sen. Raffy], hanggang dito lang talaga po kami sa Senado,” Erwin said in an interview last May.
For now, Tulfo’s previous statement indicates that he does not appear to be positioning himself for a higher national post. Diaz’s latest remarks therefore represent his own personal preference rather than a confirmed announcement regarding Tulfo’s political plans for 2028.
Erwin Teshiba Tulfo is a Filipino politician, broadcast journalist, and news anchor who has served as a Senator of the Philippines. Before his election to the Senate, he served as a party-list representative for ACT-CIS, Deputy Majority Leader in the House of Representatives, and Secretary of Social Welfare and Development under President Bongbong Marcos.
In another report, Senator Raffy Tulfo raised concerns over the treatment allegedly experienced by members of the Senate minority bloc during a scheduled plenary session. Tulfo claimed that the group was left without air conditioning and internet access inside the chamber while they waited for more than an hour for majority senators to arrive. He said all 11 minority senators were already present when they noticed that the room had suddenly become unusually warm, and the session eventually did not push through.
Meanwhile, Erwin Tulfo disputed Senator Pia Cayetano’s statement that members of the minority bloc failed to check on others following the Senate shooting incident. He explained that senators from both the majority and minority groups were communicating through an official WhatsApp group where updates about the situation were exchanged. Erwin specifically pointed to Senators Kiko Pangilinan, Bam Aquino, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Camille Villar as among those included in the group conversation.
