Rere Madrid first shared news of her pregnancy with Bianca Umali before telling her brother, Ruru Madrid, because she was afraid of how he might react.

During Tuesday's episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Ruru explained that his younger sister had long viewed him as a strict older brother, making it difficult for her to approach him with such personal news.
“Dati kasi, Tito Boy, sobrang strikto ko. Remember, the last time na nandito kami, kinuwento rin naman ni Rere 'yun. So parang kinakabahan siya na 'pag sa 'kin niya sinabi, imbis na matuwa ako, magalit ako.”
Instead of speaking to him immediately, Rere first confided in Bianca Umali, Ruru's longtime girlfriend. Ruru said Bianca had already been reminding him even before the pregnancy announcement that being overly strict could push his siblings away.

“I mean prior to this na in-announce ni Rere na buntis siya or kasal na siya, si Bianca 'yung nagsabi sa 'kin na 'Wag maging mahigpit sa mga kapatid mo kasi kapag mahigpit ka sa kanila, hindi sila mag-o-open up sa 'yo.'”
He said Bianca's advice changed the way he looked at his role as an older brother.
“From there, nagbago 'yung perspective ko sa kung papaano ko tinitingnan 'yung ganu'n, kung papaano protektahan ang kapatid.”
Ruru also shared that before the pregnancy was officially revealed, he already sensed that something important was about to happen. When Bianca told him that Rere wanted to speak with him, his mind initially feared the worst regarding Kai Sotto.
“Sabi ko, 'Ano'ng sasabihin niya?' Nu'ng una pa inisip ko, sabi ko, 'Baka binubugbog 'to ni Kai, a?' Or baka niloko, sinaktan.”
He later recalled having an unusual feeling while driving.
“Pero true story, Tito Boy, habang nasa biyahe ako, nagmamaneho ako, tinignan ko 'yung buwan, tapos parang 'yung buwan, para bang may pinapahiwatig siya sa 'kin na something. And then from there, naramdaman ko na buntis si Rere.”
Once Rere finally confirmed the pregnancy, Ruru assured her that she no longer had to fear telling him anything. He also promised to support both her and Kai.
The actor then helped the couple prepare to tell their parents, suggesting they wait until Kai could return from Japan.
“Ako na 'yung nagsabi sa kaniya na 'Sige, Re, sasamahan kita kapag in-open mo 'to kina mama and dada.' So sinabi ko rin sa kaniya na better siguro, kasi during that time, si Kai, nasa Japan pa. So sabi ko, 'Better siguro na kasama natin si Kai 'pag in-announce natin sa magulang natin itong pangyayaring ito.'”
According to Ruru, he and Kai spent four hours talking on the phone, during which he encouraged the basketball player to fly home. Kai reportedly returned to the Philippines, despite his busy schedule in Japan, just to personally share the news with the family before flying back the next day.
“Mula du'n, sobrang nirespeto ko si Kai kasi talagang ginawa niya kahit sobrang busy siya sa Japan, ay mga game siya, to be honest, parang ang nangyari, umuwi lang siya para sabihin, and then the next day, bumalik na siya ng Japan. So na-appreciate ko po 'yung tao kasi hindi naman po lahat ng lalaki ay ganu'ng tapang na harapin kung ano 'yung sitwasyon.”
Ruru Madrid is a versatile Filipino actor whose performance in the film Green Bones earned him the Best Supporting Actor award at the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival. First earning international notice with his early dramatic performance in Above the Clouds, he has expanded his repertoire to showcase both hit reality hosting in Running Man Philippines and martial arts action roles on television.
In another report, Ruru Madrid shared why his respect for Kai Sotto grew after learning how the basketball star handled a challenging family matter. According to Ruru, Kai flew back from Japan to personally speak with Rere Madrid's family regarding her pregnancy. The actor said not every man would have the courage to face such a situation head-on, which made Kai earn his admiration.
Meanwhile, Ruru Madrid revealed that his religious beliefs have led him to decline several projects throughout his career. The Kapuso actor explained that, as a member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, he does not accept endorsements involving alcohol and gàmbling. He said he consults both production teams and his church whenever certain roles require careful consideration before making a decision. Even with these personal boundaries, Ruru emphasized that he remains committed to exploring a variety of acting opportunities, including his upcoming historical film Los Salvajes Bravos.
