During the August 4 episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the Kapuso actor shared why his respect for Kai grew after the athlete personally flew back to the Philippines from Japan to face Ruru's family regarding Rere Madrid's pregnancy.
According to Ruru, he initially offered to accompany his younger sister when she planned to tell their parents the news. However, since Kai was in Japan at the time, Ruru believed it would be better if he also took part in the conversation.

The actor recalled that despite having commitments overseas, Kai immediately made time to return to the Philippines. After meeting with the family, the basketball player reportedly flew back to Japan the following day to continue fulfilling his responsibilities.
“Then the next day, bumalik na siya ng Japan.
Asked to describe his younger sister's husband, Ruru emphasized that Kai's actions spoke louder than words.
Aside from appreciating Kai's willingness to face a difficult situation, Ruru also admired his personality after spending time together during a recent double date with Bianca Umali and the couple.
According to the actor, Kai never tried to impress him despite being his older brother-in-law. Instead, he remained calm, humble, and genuine throughout their time together.
“Siyempre, 'pag kuya, alam mo na magpapakitang-gilas. Hindi siya ganun, cool lang, sobrang cool. Actually, parehas sila ng personality ni Bianca. So sabi ko, 'Gusto ko itong taong 'to.' Kasi wala siyang gustong patunayan,” Ruru said.
For Ruru, Kai's sincerity, humility, and willingness to take responsibility left a lasting impression, making him admire not only the athlete's character but also the values he consistently shows toward their family.
