During his interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Tuesday, August 4, Ruru shared how he wanted Kai to be with the family when they broke the news to their parents. Kai was in Japan at the time because of his basketball commitments, but Ruru felt that his presence was important for such a significant family moment.
Ruru recalled that he first contacted Kai and discussed the situation with him over the phone for several hours. He then suggested that Kai return to the Philippines so he could personally explain to their parents what had happened.
“During that time, si Kai nasa Japan pa. So sabi ko, better siguro na kasama natin si Kai pagka in-announce natin sa magulang natin itong pangyayaring 'to. So, tinawagan ko si Kai. Nag-usap kami for like 4 hours through phone and then doon sinabi ko sa kanya na, 'Bro, better siguro na umuwi ka dito sa Pilipinas and then sabihin mo kung ano talaga 'yung nangyari.'”

According to Ruru, Kai respected the request despite having a busy schedule in Japan and games to attend. He said Kai made the trip back to the Philippines primarily to speak with their parents about the situation before returning to Japan the following day.
Ruru emphasized that he appreciated Kai’s willingness to face the situation personally, particularly because the basketball player was in the middle of his commitments in Japan.
“Mula doon, sobrang nirespeto ko si Kai kasi talagang ginawa niya kahit na sobrang busy siya sa Japan. May mga games siya. To be honest parang ang nangyari, umuwi lang siya para sabihin and then the next day bumalik na siya ng Japan.”
Ruru said Kai’s decision left a strong impression on him. He highlighted the courage it took for Kai to personally face the family and explain what had happened instead of simply communicating the news from Japan.
“So, na-appreciate ko po 'yung tao kasi hindi naman po lahat ng lalaki ay may gano'ng tapang na harapin po kung ano 'yung sitwasyon.”
