Ice Seguerra has opened up about the emotional journey he and wife Liza Diño went through while trying to build a family, revealing why they eventually accepted that having a biological child together may no longer be part of their future.

During his guest appearance on "i-Listen with Kara David," Ice looked back on conversations they had as early as 2013 about having a baby through in vitro fertilization (IVF). According to him, both of them agreed to pursue the idea, but their plans kept getting postponed because they believed they still had plenty of time.
“She said yes, and then 2013, and then siyempre medyo na-move nang na-move kasi feeling namin bata pa kami. [Year] 2016 was the time that we both entered government,” she said.
Ice said he was already 35 years old when the IVF process finally began and doctors harvested his eggs. However, the results were far from what they had hoped for.

“Kasi nga, ganu’n daw pala ‘yun. Kapag nag-35 ka, significantly bababa ‘yung [quality ng eggs]. Isipin mo, tatlo lang ang nakuha sa akin.”
Beyond the medical challenges, Ice shared that several doctors were reluctant to proceed because of ethical concerns surrounding the procedure in the Philippines.
“And the laws, the laws that we have here, sobrang restrictive. Or not even laws, kasi ang sinasabi sa amin nu’n was, the doctors can't do it because it was unethical,” she narrated.
He also explained that their demanding schedules, especially during the time they were both serving in government, made it difficult to commit to the lengthy treatment process.
“Hindi lang naman siya, o punta tayo overnight, ha? Hindi siya ganu’n eh. So na-move nang na-move, na-move,” she added.
Looking back, Ice said they have already made peace with the possibility that having a biological child together may not happen.
“And then, nandito na rin kami sa point na, I'm 43, she's 45. Parang... I don't think it's wise. I mean, we already have one. We have Amara, who's already 18. So parang ngayon, siguro that's something that's not for us in this lifetime,” Ice said.
Ice said Amara was only three years old when he and Liza became a couple. Over the years, they gradually built a close relationship, and he intentionally avoided forcing himself into a parental role because Amara's biological father remained actively involved in her life.
“Basta sabi ko sa sarili ko nu’n, I will not impose. Kasi her dad, who's in the States, is very much involved. And parang, you know, it's something that shouldn't be imposed. Whenever she feels like calling me dad, then, I welcome that,” she further explained.
He later recalled the unforgettable moment when Amara unexpectedly asked if she could call him "dad."
“So parang, biglang out of the blue, nasa kotse yata kami, and she was like, ‘Baba, can I just call you dad?’ So parang ako, siyempre, pa-nonchalant naman ako. ‘Yeah, of course.’ Sabi ko, ‘Yay! (pumalakpak),’” Ice said.
Ice admitted that he nearly cried during that heartfelt moment.
“Muntikan na. Medyo, nangingilid na.”
He also expressed gratitude that his parents were able to spend meaningful moments with Amara, saying it gave them the joy of experiencing what it was like to have a granddaughter.
“Amara had moments with my parents na, na-feel nila na may apo sila, at least from me. Alam mo yun? So, ang sarap lang,” Ice concluded.
