Actor JM de Guzman opened up about a deeply personal struggle during the grand mediacon of his new series, “My Bespren Emman,” revealing how the project helped him rediscover his faith at a crucial point in his life.

“I lost my relationship with God and this show helped me reconnect with Him,” JM admitted.

He recalled the moment director Derick Cabrido first introduced the story to him.

“Naalala ko ‘yung pumunta si Direk Derick sa condo namin at kinukuwento niya ‘yung istorya, ‘yung karakter, backstory iyak lang ako nang iyak,” he added.

According to the actor, the timing of the project was significant.

“Kasi nataon na kailangan ko talaga sa buhay ko ngayon. Kailangan ko si God, kailangan ko si Emman sa buhay ko ngayon,” he said.

JM further emphasized how the role came when he needed it most.

Despite having recovered from previous challenges, JM admitted that he still faces ongoing struggles that sometimes leave him questioning his situation. However, portraying his character Mateo brought a shift in perspective.

“Nu’ng dumating si My Bespren Emman, si Mateo ay parang nagkaroon na ako ng enlightenment,” he shared.

“Parang na-realize ko lahat na ‘yung mga pinagdaanan ko noon, depression, anxiety, ay ni-lead ako dito to prepare me for this show.”

During an intimate interview, JM also expressed appreciation for his co-stars, who provided support during emotionally demanding scenes.

“Minsan hindi ko na hinihingi hahawakan na nila ako,” he said.
